| Prototypes worth modelling-The Vickers Supermarine Sea Otter. VICKERS SUPERMARINE SEA OTTER. Basically an improved version of the Walrus which it superseded in Fleet Air Arm service from 1944 for reconnaisance and air sea rescue duties, the Supermarine Sea Otter was the last biplane amphibian to be designed by the company, and also the last aircraft of biplane configuration in service with the Fleet Air Arm,the Sea Otter had a more refined structure than the Walrus and was of all metal construction with fabric covered aerofoil surfaces. The aircraft had a tractor configuration as oppsed to a pusher engine on the Walrus with a Bristol Mercury XXX radial engine. The type was first flown in 1938 but was not in service with the FAA until 1944 initially with No.1700 squadron,292 aircraft were built of both marks the Mk.1 & Mk.2.Post war the aircraft were used by the Danish air force,Dutch navy and the French customs in Indo China, the example above was operated as a civil machine by Qantas Empire Airways. Wingspan: 46 feet. Max Speed: 154 mph. Max Range: 835 miles.

| | Gorfnoom | Supermarine Sea Otter. In the September 1976 Vol 17 No 9 of RCM & E their is a beautiful stand off scale model by Eric Fearnley. I have loved this model ever since I slapped eyes on it. There are plans for said model RC/1281, I found them once but have lost the web site. I have spent the last three days trying to find this site again, now I'v found you and plead for some help. Thanking you in advance. |

| Does anyone remember the film called 'The Sea Shall Not Have Us' ? this portrayed some excellent scenes of a Sea Otter picking up ditched airmen,a very well done film, why dont they do some of these oldies on DVD instead of bringing out the rubbish they do ?

| Graeme she really is a beauty,I just wish that I had these plans myself to offer you but alas no,they should be available from the X-List plans service, just put X-List plans into your browser and it will lead you straight there, put in a request with the respective date/issue and they will search it out for you.
Eric Fearnley designed some really great models, and this is certainly one of them.
I seem to remember that the late H.J.Towner also did a plan for this design, well at least his model was purchased by the R.A.F Museum alonmg with lots of other of his models.
