Mystic M17/M55 Geophysica

One of my favourite aircraft is the Mjasishifchev M55 Geophysica NATO code name M55 Mystic.

There are PSS plans out there for this one but if I was to build my own motor glider this would be it at about the 2-2.5M size. A free design called Big Brother with simillar configuration and Easyriser from Jamara are both known for there easy flying characterstics and modest power requirements I love the plan form of this aircraft's wings in particular.

The M17 was the first off the board as a Russian equivalent to the sort of U2 role....it didn't really perform with its single engine so was re designed and re engined emerging as the twin engined M55 Mystic or Geophysica a high altitude research plane. I will put up the links and you can explore yourselves.

Great stuff...the monoplane An2 (An3) would be an unusual subject. Anybody been to the sad Monino Museum? The Mystic is a great example of modern (ish) twin boom layout. Fascinating as always Clive. Soviet era planes must come as a shock to some of the head-in-the-sand western observers.
