| Nazi planes and swastikas in kits I just noticed on a website i was reading, someone mentioned new model kits of nazi fighter/bomber planes don't include the swastika anymore because of "political correctness" which i personally think is ridiculous!
I just wondered if this is actually true? i just realised my Messerschmitt 109 doesn't have one, but im unsure whether the real thing did or not as i've seen photos of some with and some without.
I've also noticed on some boxes of kits, the swastika is blurred out or has a letter obscuring where the swastika would be. I've been assuming that it would only be on the box, but the decal would still be inside, or am i wrong? |

| 5th we discussed this in detail before, there are many people out there who take political correctness to extremes, the sad element to this is that these people are trying to re-write the history books,to eradicate the swastika is like saying that WW2 did not exist ? lets keep its presence at least in museums as a way of remembering those that suffered for the free world, and also a reminder that such attrocities should never be allowed to happen again.

| Anything manufactured in Germany particularly, such as Revel kits will have Swastika's missing.
My Revel U-boat does not have them on the Kreigsmarine flag. It is political correctness gone wrong to the point of stupidity and people who are advocating such things should not be given credibility.
We will never learn anything from the second world war if we pretend it didn't happen. Then we will breed another generation that will do it all again because no-one will pass on our experiences.
Some people are so politically correct they are dangerous to the rest of society. |

| It's ridiculous, you dont seem to be allowed to say/do anything these days in fear of offending someone.
I dont suppose anyone knows if Airfix etc kits come with swastikas? or have all the manufacturers followed suit? im assuming they dont if they're not on the box artwork?
I guess it's not vital that it's there, but it would be nice to have it accurate and not missing something!
Just seems stupid to ban a symbol, what does it really achieve??
Anyway, rant over lol |

| 5th the aftermarket decal manufacturers sell more swastikas than any other marking.
As Airfix was originally a Jewish company, they imposed a ban very early on,most companies followed suit, there is nothing new here, once I purchased some decals of various types in a shop in Germany, when I got them home the swastikas were ruined with a ballpoint pen literally scribed through them.
Some manufacturers provide the two seperate legs of the decal for joining together.
The ironic thing about all of this is that it was originally a American peace symbol and also used by the Finnish air force long before the Luftwaffe used it,it was corrupted by slanting it 45 degrees by Hitler.
The solution is simple for modellers, just buy a sheet of various sized swastikas and maintain the historical accuracy of your model.

| I think the situation has gone crazy not only swastikas but depeictions of aircraft fighting or being shot up are also non grata now (see the old airfix boxes compared to the new) microscale and many others make decals i suggest as Barry says buy some sheets so your model will look right |

As I am half greek I have to step in here. The earliest use of the swastika design were found in ancient Greek and Minoan societies a few thousand years ago. It is indeed a symbol of peace and continuity. Hitler never had an original idea in his life. Even mass genocide had been going on long before he started. And still is now. |
