f-16 cockpit build thread

as most of you know i have got the Italeri 1:12 F-16 Cockpit of squiffythewombat.

http://semodels.com/f16-cockpit-p-1098.html

i have done the helmet and painted the font housing.

i have also nearly finished one side of the seat but i wont put any picture up untill its done.

here are a few pictures of the helmet and one of the front housing.

i must say the decals in this kit are excellent!!!

Coming along ok now, ill get some pictures up once there are some worth putting up!!!

The base that came with this model was just a rectangular piece of plastic; squiffy suggested a wooden base would look better.

So hunting around my garage I found something that would be suitable.

A left over length of skirting board which just happened to be EXACLTY the same width as the original base. So after cutting it down with my favorite power tool (my circular saw) I realized it was just MDF with a veneer over it so the edged would look rubbish, so I sprayed it black and gave it a few cotes of matt varnish.

Even though it is not wood colored the curved front makes it look just that much better than the standard one.

I am going to elevate the model with some brass rods as well instead of having it just sit on the base.

Here are some pictures of the finished base (minus the brass rods and holes for them)

A vast improvement and the brass rods will make a big differrence as well.

Standard kit bases an nearly always be improved on, the Revel one with the sub was not very exciting so the new one I made from wood and brass gave the whole thing a bit more class.

sorry i have not put anything up on here for a while.

for a start i could not do any modeling for a few weeks as it was too hot to sit up in my room. then i was holiday...yada yada yada...enough excuses!

i have nearly finished the seat. just need to do the back cussion and harness but i have lost two bits i had already made for the harnes so a good sort out of my desk is in order or i will have to scratch them. forward instrument pannel done and HUD. done the main left instrument pannel and started on the right one. just need to clean up the edges and do a few touch ups.

i have also painted all the little bits like the yoke and throttle and other various bit n' bobs to go onto the pannels once done. sorry i could not get a very clear picture of the front pannel. i will try and get a better one tomorrow.
