| thanks all...i use a clear epoxy casting resin to model water..the one with the seperate catalyst..so i can vary the drying time..i cast it in thin layers so as i can add details like reeds & vegitation..and the stirred up mud effect..as i go .
this helps to give the "water" depth.. the marsh reeds are believe it or not Human hair..the jacket and wollen flyers jersey are made from good old Rizla papers..oh and its a 1/32nd and not 1/48th as previously stated...
i like to try and incorporate.. the one essential element in warfare that seems to be missing.from most dioramas'....DEATH.. pathos and levity in scenes incorporating armoured troops ,vehicles and the likes is all very well,
but i think they all miss the point.. in reality these machines are not designed and built to look good on parade..they have a definate purpose and that purpose is Death..and i was always told that the makings of a good diorama .depict the subject doing its thing..some of you might think my style is a little gruesome..but i certainly make you think...
thanks again.....D...
oh the mouldy growth over the wings and fuselage is the scenic scatter stuff railway moddelers use..that and a little cigarette ash..
its all hand painted in enamels..weathered with oils-pastels..

| You are right Deakon, war is about death, war machines smell of it,you are a brave man to emulate it in miniature, they do come through as gruesome but it is just the same as a war artist telling a story via his paintings,it is a statement of the evils of war, perhaps not for everyone to model but it is your niche and something that you are very good at portraying.

| Thanks Baz..if there is such a thing i try to keep my scenes.as "tasteful" as possible..no gore..although I have a few ideas cooking..including viscera etc.
not to shock or disgust..but to try to depict the stark reality of armed combat..if this means that in the corner of one of my scenes there is a british para stuffing his guts back into his abdomen.. or a russian guardsman standing over an enemy machine gunner.entrenching tool in hand.mouth agape.white faced..the gunner at his feet.with a gaping headwound..so be it..but these bits of lets call them...focal points...in my scenes are rarely the main subject..take my "river bend" diorama...there are walking wounded. and a little blood..but no corpses or gore...i had toyed with the idea of one or two floaters in the water..but decided the scene had enough impact..i was striving for tension and a little anticipation. leaving it to the viewer to determine what might happen next...hey im starting to ramble..get me on a soapbox and i cant shutup....... |
