os max 40 engine

ok as some of you know in my plane i put one of my dads os max 40 engines in it. being old and used my dad has totaled the silencer in a crash or somethign or it has gotten lost in a move or something

but the silencer on it at the moment isnt a os one and i dont think it is giving enough pressure so i was gonna see if i could find a silencer for it but i cant as the one that fits onto this engine has to be mounted with a jubilee type clip as it doesnt have the holes for the screws

so does anyone know if you can still get these silencers and what sorta price would i be looking at?

or would i be better off going for a new engine for my plane?

edit if i do decide on a new engine what would be better the os la 40 or the fx40 ?

Iain, see if you can get hold of a Flair Dustbin silencer, dead easy to fit as they strap around the head via a jubilee clip, they are actually intended for use with scale models but make useful substitute silencers that fit almost anything.
Both of those engines would be fine.

Best to give them a ring and see if they can send you one, tell them what type of engine it is for.

Iain,

Keep the OS40, They are a superb Engine, I trust yours has been looked after well and is still free running. OS Engines are quality engines and should last many years. I may still have a silencer for this size engine knocking about, I will have to check my spares box first though. The one I have was fitted, Believe it or not, to a Russian MVVS .40 Diesel. I was fortunate enough to get my hands on the proper MVVS tuned pipe for that engine so I now have the .40 size exhaust as spare. I don't have any other .40 Size Engines so will check this pipe for you....It is NOT an MVVS exhaust and had been modified with a hose clamp to fit the MVVS, the clamp is still attached.

Regards.....Mark.

the engine is like 30 years old no abc construction :P just the piston ring and sleeve

my dad said it has maybe about 4-7 gallons through it

it still has compression so its all good for now apart from the silencer
