David, without generalising on any particular type of Cessna kit in the parkflier category, all I can say is go for one, these small models offer not only value for money in terms of what you get,but are great fun to fly as well,if you cost out the various bits and pieces including charger then you will see what I mean.
Try and get one that has at least rudder/elevator and speed controller that operates the throttle side for full control.
Having purchased a few of these small models when I tire of them,I often take them apart later to incorporate parts into my own designs made from balsa, and why not ?
This may not fully answer all of your questions but at least give you a few ideas to try yourself.

i understand what you are saying.
i have found one with everything incl + its a brushless motor/lipo bat version
http://www.boomshot.co.uk/acatalog/Planes.html (top of the page)
this site is small and only about a year old but they have a full spares for all the aircraft on the sit + they sell upgrades such as bl motors and lipo bats all at quite cheap prices.

I bought one from Skyartec. It has a fast, powerful brushless motor. The box said "Ready to Fly" but that was quite far from the truth. It took a few evenings of assemblying, gluing, letting it dry, adjusting the linkages, etc. in order to get it into flight condition.

The connector for the aileron servos was obviously improvised from computer parts, because it read "POWER LED" on the connector. And it did not fit into the controller. I had to whittle it with a knife in order to get it to fit.

The front wheel steers with the rudder. If the linkage happens to be reversed, then turn the wheel holder 180 degrees and it will correct the linkage.
The plane body is styrofoam.

It has 4 channels: ailerons, motor power, rudder+wheel, elevator.

Since I am a newbie, I crashed it and already went through the 2 propellers that
the kit included, and the body is pretty banged up. Maybe another plane would be better for starting.

Skyartec Cessna 182

I too have always liked the lines of the Cessna 182. I bought a Skyartec Cessna 182 back during the winter. I feel it was great value for the money. The directions are not the best and it required some cutting of the foam to allow the elevator to move up. Linkages had to be adjusted for best allignment of front wheel and control surfaces, but no big deal. Only recently have we had weather suitable to fly it. Unfortunately the flight simulator they supplied was for a Wasp helicopter and I have not been able to get the simulator for the Cessna from the seller. On first flight, I crashed it and am waiting for parts. The general opinion seems to be that it is kind of fast for a trainer. I would like to get a copy of the flight simulator before I try flying it again. If anyone could help me obtain a copy, I would pay and be very grateful. byoung@bmts.com
