solvent for future and primer mix ratios

Hello all:
I have used Future, straight out the bottle from my airbrush with spectacular results. But, what is best for cleaning it out after use? I once tried straight ammonia (awhh. ),and it was a real hassle. I've got A:lacquer thinner, white spirit, isopropyl alcohol, acetone and the ammonia. Unfortunatly, these are the only cleaners I have to use.
My next question is simple: I have a few bottles of MM primer enamel and the MM thinner. What would be the ideal mix ratio? I tried is once before but it sprayed way too thin and did not dry for days....... Any thoughts? THANKS!

QUESTION 1 thin/clean future/clear...etc with a window cleaner (eg, windex, mr. muscle window cleaner, windolene...etc) these contain a trace of amonia but it is enough to clean the future (and any other acrylic for that matter) when you spray future, add a few drops of the window cleaner to it to break the surface tension.

some people spray a few realy fine "pebbley" coats of future, then give it a quick once over with the window cleaner of their choice, this breaks the tension of the previous coats and creates one super glossy and smooth surface. perfect to apply your decals on!!!

have a read through this thread:

http://www.arcforums.com/forums/air/...howtopic=63929

i have learnt alot from this!!

QUESTION 2:

have you tired spraying it neat? try it on a modle hack or some un-wanted styrene. if it dosnt work, just try thinning it down a drop at a time untill you get the desired results!

Cool, Thank you rjwood! So basically, by adding the cleaner to future you are also cleaning the airbrush. Never thought of this as brushing future onto parts is a dream come true! I don't think I've tried the primer straight-only thinned so I'll give it a go.

sorry, i think you didnt quite get me there.ok,

generally, add a few drops of the cleaner to future to break its surface tension, you will find it sprays alot better and will never "pool" on the model itself.

to clean the airbrush, run pure cleaner through it or soak it in it (however you clean your airbrush)

hope that makes sense, if not. let me know and i will try and explain,

Richard

Thanks again for your help. Actually, its the cleaning part that gets me. Last time a used future through the air brush, it took me at least 30 min to clean all the future off the metal parts-I used straight ammonia and it was not fun. Any thoughts on ways to really clean future off the airbrush quickly?

yup, just fill your paint pot that attatches to the air brush (or the one that is attatched if its gravity fed with the window cleaner and run it through as if you were spraying it onto something. if this dosnt get rid or every bit, say on the nozle, just remove it and soak it in the window cleaner for 20mins and it will be clean as a whistle.

Ok, I have just filled a small container with water and a few drops of ammonia-my problem was that I waited way too long to clear the brush last time I used it for future. I immediately rinsed the solution through the brush and reverse flushed. It looks like I cleaned it all up! Take care, Jeff
