SE5a Plans for 1/3 scale?

For my next project I’d like to build a 1/3 scale SE5a. I’m at the planning stage and would appreciate suggestions for plans, power plant, etc.. Also, it would be nice if anyone has a link to a build thread for such a beast.

Ok you are going in to this on a larger scale than Grahame's model but I think his thread is well worth a read with all the construction tips he has thrown in along the way.....these will be just as valid for your model allowing for the bigger Engine, the tips will no doubt apply to your larger version.

Grahame has covered quite a lot of in depth work on his SE5a and I would recommend you read through his thread on this very plane.....You will certainly learn a lot on there for your model.

You will find it in the Under Construction section on this site

Regards.......Mark

I see you've already built an SE5a in 1:6th - looks absolutely superb! How much extra detail can you fit into the 1:3rd scale version?

I was thinking that too!

Perhaps that's the next build...anything smaller than 1/3 would be a cop out!

Mark. I've been following Grahame's build for some time. Actually, I've saved it on disk for future reference! He's done a beautiful job. I'm looking forward to it's maiden.
Alan & Gaz. LOL. I thought about 1:1, but I don't think I can afford the marriage counselor. Besides, 1/3 is as large as I can fit in the back of my van.(when I suggested buying a trailer, my wife said I should get one big enough to sleep in)

Am I right in assuming that this one will be 100% RC? If not you’ll need mighty long lines and arms like Popeye!

It’ll certainly be an impressive model, but in my opinion incorporating all that incredible detail on your 1/6th scale SE5a was an even more impressive feat of modelling.

Yes, this will be R/C!
I'm hoping that I can make more things function at this scale. Like the radiator shutters, control stick, compass, etc. A scale Wosely Viper would be nice.

Thanks Fossil. Those are good shots. This plane has just been restored. I have 2 CDs of the old girl. I can't wait to see the "New" girl. If anyone finds new pictures or CDs, please let me know.
