| Prototypes worth modelling-The Heinkel 117 Everyone builds Messerschmitt Bf.109's but there are other interesting German aircraft of equal suitabilty as flying model subjects, the Heinkel 117 is one of them, this sleek fighter aircraft never quite made it as the Luftwaffe number one fighter but with a bit of work could have been an awesome machine.
Originally produced as a record breaking single engine design to promote the up and coming Luftwaffe its development was hindered by technical problems and unskilled labour.
As a model subject the design lends itself well due to its ideal proportions,I have only built one model of this subject and it flew very well considering its small size a mere 18 inches of wingspan, the tailplane needs a little enlargement as do on other period fighter aircraft, build it light as well the wing has reasonable thickness if you really want to make it retract otherwise just hand launch her and dispense with the gear.
One thing is for sure she will be a welcome change to the run of the mill Messerschmitts.
