Thanks Tony, Ian Joe

The good news is that both my mum and brother are out of hospital now.

Also, I may have some time next week to start the cockpits of these 2 Dr 1s. It may not be a great deal of progress but at least it keeps the builds moving.

Thanks Vaughan for the kind comments on the build so far.

Cheers

Paul

Once upon a time, long, long ago...

It seems like an absolute eternity since I last updated this thread (turns out it was 8 months ago). Still, I thought I'd post what progress I have so far before starting the big Mk1 Spitfire builds. As I've said before, nothing is wrong with progress on these builds, nor am I bored of them. I think the real reason it's taking so long is that they are VERY involved little builds. I think they will build into lovely models once complete but to do them justice is proving REALLY time consuming.

Anyway, to give an indication of the level of detail and where I'm at I'm uploading a selection of shots showing various aspects of the build.

General overview of parts...

Port cockpit side...

Seat detail (bead applied to seat rim)...

Steering column and cockpit floor...

Canvas and frame behind pilot (frame made from soldered rod with etch canvas. Already painted and seems to have picked up some dust over the past 8 months!!!)

Altimeter in place on starboard cockpit side (Stringer diagonally top right to btm left will need to be done again - looks awful)

Altimeter - they're quite small! (These will have brass bezels and instrument decals added later)

Wooden triangular panels missing from the kits...

And that's where I'm at so far. I think the bulk of the really fiddly stuff is finished so after the Spitfire builds I promise (hand on heart) to finish these terrific little kits.

And so on to the Spits...

Cheers

P
