| *** Richard that is a fair enough question, and I realise now that my review does not take this point into consideration,to re-iterate it is purely for discharging and test evaluation,to get the best simply fully charge the battery first up to peak with your standard charger, then hook up to the CBA via your computer/laptop and perform the discharge operation, everything else then is automatic. Conditioning to me has always implied discharging and then recharging but there is no other mention of charging in your description.
Thanks for the evaluation, I am seriously looking at this fitting into a slot in my Christmas list. |

However, the only shortcoming with the CBA seems to be that it doesn't measure individual cells capacity/voltage so is impossible to tell which, if any, cells are on their way out. A friend of mine has a Pro Trak charger which does measure individual cells, but doesn't give graphical discharge curve......... What I really need is a combination of the two...... | Hi I am Mike Redmond from Aurorra Ltd, we are the importers for the cba. I would like to help barry answer some of the questions from his excellent review.
Paul , the CBA can measure individual cells and is often used to select and match cells for custom packs because the unit plots the exact voltage discharge performance under a constant current load. This essentially is what the pack assemblers are doing when preparing performance packs. They are selecting individual cells for matched high performance discharge characteristics before they assemble them into a pack. You can usually predict the potential failure of a pack by regularly plotting the discharge characteristics of your battery pack, overlaying previous meaurements at the same discharge current will show any variance in pull down of the voltage.Remember one important aspect of this equipment is that you can accurately measure the performance of a battery pack and this can be particularly usefull when measuring a new pack to ensure that it behaves with the discharge performance and capacity as it has been sold to you.
Finally the unit is a discharger not a charger. it discharges at far higher power levels than is available with chargers that have a discharge function. |

| Mike,
thx for info. I've taken the plunge and bought one, arrived this morning!
I've done some quick tests and the results are startling; in particular some new matched & zapped cells I bought on the recommendation of a friend, seem to be c**p..... will try cycling them a few times and see if they improve.
Well pleased with CBA though, looks to be an indispensable piece of kit

| *** There you go Paul, some pretty sharp curves there,it just proves how useful this product is,like yourself I have weeded out the dead wood in terms of batteries in my inventory, the proof is in those graphs. Quote: |

| Thanks to results obtained from CBA I've binned 2 packs, sold 2 new *matched* packs, and bought some new cells to replace them.
It's fascinating trying different charging methods and then being able to plot discharge curves to compare results. I discovered by accident that my charger has a form of 'burp' charging on it so was able to try this out and see the different effects this had on Nicads & Nimhs, very valuable.
Mike, it says in the instructions that there is a device available to connect the CBA to individual cells do you stock this, and can it be used on an assembled saddle pack? Want to try and weed out any weak cells in existing packs.
Regards Paul. |

Regards Paul. | Paul are you referring to the powerpole connectors.Glad you are gettting the benefit from the unit.
Sorry for the delay in my reply
