Swift mechanics into a funkey md500?

I am just starting to get into scale helicopters, having moved from a Blade 400 to a Centry Swift. The latter because there are several club members with them and one, having moved to a Trex 600, offered me his Swift and spares at a price I could not refuse. However, I find this a very pleasant machine to fly and want to put another Swift mechanincs into something like the FunKey 30 size MD500 body. I am told by ProHeli, who supply FunKey items, that the boom will need shortening (OK) and a 'frame' will be needed to fit the two together. Presumably this might mean lifting the mechanics.

At the moment I really don't have the all the tools or the workspace to get to grips with really making things, apart from the fact that I am very busy in business. Even so, the question is has anyone else fitting this combination together and, if so what advice does he (or she) have to complete this task please?

On the scale side I have started by getting the lighting sorted out on a standard P&B Swift a.k.a

      Hi welcome.

Cannot offer advice as I am new to Helis myself, but have got a Raptor E325 SE and the EH1W Super Cobra scale conversion kit to fit when I have mastered it.

Any Pics of your MD500 ?

      Regards.

Hi RotaryOne and welcome to the site,

Nice to see another fellow Heli Flyer on here. I am currently working on a scale Bell 222 Fuselage to fit onto my old Kalt Baron Mechanics so will be going through pretty much the same process as you will have to do with yours. I am doing the Bell 222 UT Version which has the skids fitted rather than the retractable wheel undercarriage.

Having just returned back to the UK today from 6 weeks away in much warmer sunnier climes, I will be cracking on with mine now as it is freezing out there so I will be staying indoors in the warm !!

Shortening the boom on yours should not pose too much of a problem so long as you remember to shorten the piano wire tail drive to same length or fit a correct length belt if it is a belt driven type tail rotor.

As for the frame, this needn't be complicated and can be a simple plywood job - possibly even lite ply - it will add some strength to the fuselage shell especially at key mounting points and should not really add too much extra weight.

Have a look at this link for ideas re the frames - best ones to check are for the AS 350B & the BELL 230 UT - The photos on the build up guides will give you a good idea.

      : GRAUPNER - U.S.A - Main Build Ups

The lighting should not present any problems so no comment there.

      Regards.........Mark
