I thought of doing this too nigel as ive got about 500+ old instructions and decals. However as was pointed out on another thread, most manufacters hold copywright and have them on their own sites anyway, at least Airfix.com does.
Blinding idea tho....

***Most ( not all ) plans are sold on the basis that 'One model can be built from the drawing' templates normally have to be made in order to get the model completed,as the building 'Templates' ( sic ) are being gifted or loaned and not the plans then there should not be a problem,a template can take many forms ie a simple card cut out,a pasted on image or what-ever,as the plans are not being sold but just held in an archive library for reference then there is no copying, the term (sic) is important here.
Take a look at the link Kiwi has placed, there are certainly plenty breaking the rules and actually selling reprints ( copying ) of drawings, but we are not going along that route.

I have checked with Alphagraphics (a print shop directly opposite where i work, they also have our work account.) They can scan upto A0 for £2.00 a go and load onto any rewritable media. I think an online downloadable database is the best idea. Then we can print off our own or download to usb storage and nip to the print shop, avoiding all the postage and the possible losing in the post that may occur. I reckon we need to find out who has what as far as plans go, then find out who is willing to do the real hard work of spending the hours scanning at the print shop. I would imagine donations will be necessary to cover the cost. I more than willing to put my hand in my pocket for this. If others want to see this project through, someone needs to take charge. It will be more than worth it in the end. I have not come across any other modelling websites that have such an online database.

Thats because of copyright laws, I won't be putting them on here for download either, someone once posted that he read something in a magazine and offered to scan it in for a member and posted it, shortly after I got an email from the editor of the magazine so I had to delete it.

***tigertc, this would be blatently storing copyright material on a retrieval system, and the plans people would quite rightly come down like a ton of bricks.
The idea is just to list plans that are held on file, drawings that people have no further use for like Squiffys but need a good home to stop them getting destroyed,so much has been lost in the past like this.
If anyone wanted to build a model then the plans libary could possibly come to the rescue, parts could be traced straight from the drawing onto the materials for an individual model, after all that is what plans are for, building.
There are many plans published in the public domain that should not be so placed as they still hold a copyright despite their age.
I would not want t get involved with anything that could get John into problems,I know that you will understand.

I don't have a problem with that, all I'm saying is I won't be hosting them for download.
