Howdy Barry,

Thanks for the kind words. I am sure you have heard "what comes around, goes around". Well, There have been times that I was in need of help while searching for different things and there has always been some other person who helped me and this is an instance wherein I can help someone else. (Even though it is probably something Dave could do himself, it would be at a much greater expense for the phone calls than it is for me. I have free long distance anywhere in the U.S.A.).
Who knows, someday, someone may come along that Dave can help...the point is, it doesnt matter if Dave helps that person or someone else does, the "example" of good will has been presented and I have no doubt in my mind that it will carry on, especially in this forum with this fine group of people.
And one other thing I have found is that "helping another" is a great way to meet people and make new friends, be it in person or online.
My help may very well not produce any results Dave can use, but Dave will always know that someone here did try to help.
The fact that people here will take the time to help others reflects well on the group as a whole also, so, when we here at the forum see someone in need of assistance, however great or small, do what you can for them. They will surely appreciate the effort and who knows, they may be the person to return the favor to you in the future during your time of "need".

Have a good day,

Greg

That is a very good policy to go by Greg,I could not agree more.
I hope the search for parts proves fruitful.

Howdy Dave,

Ok, No news YET. I did however speak with the customer service rep at Squadron and they are supposed to call me back. The rep. said that he would speak with some of their importers and ask about the parts, I gave him the kit numbers and part numbers. He stated that I should hear back from him tomorrow or Wednesday.
When I hear back from him, I will let you know what I find out. I told him that I needed a quote on parts cost and an estimate on shipping.

I also called "Model Rectifier" here in the states, but, they dont carry revell monogram. So, that lead was a dead end. I got off abit late this afternoon, so those were the only two I had a chance to contact today, but I will be calling more tomorrow.

Have a good day,

Greg

Howdy Nigel,

Thanks,, But I think Dave has already checked with the Revell/Monogram Germany website and was told that the kits are no longer in production and that he would not be able to get parts from them. (If I am not mistaken about that).
Which is why I started looking in the USA for the parts. I did give Dave the link to revell USA's parts ordering page about 5 posts back in this thread.

And this is to Dave.......
I did not hear back from the customer service rep from squadron today, so I am assuming it will be tomorrow.
I did However check with the owner of the hobby shop I buy from and he said he would also ask his vendors about the parts. So, my "feelers" are out there, hopefully someone will contact me with some good news tomorrow or in the following days if squadron doesnt come through for me.

Have a good day,

Greg

Howdy Dave,

Well, I am sorry to say that I too came up with the same thing you did...."These kits are no longer in production and parts can not be obtained for them".
This answer came from 4 different contacts I made, the fifth contact has yet to reply, but I wouldnt hold my breath for a positive reply.
Two of them companies I contacted did suggest finding the kits online or in a hobbyshop and purchasing the entire kit again, but unless you just absolutely have to have the model, I wouldnt do that.
If it were me, being that I am a machinist by trade, the nose cone wouldnt be much of a problem.....the canopy however would be.
You might buy some polystyrene tubes and sheeting and you might posiibly be able to form a nose cone or if you know someone who makes resin parts....maybe they could help you.

Sorry I couldnt be of more help,

Greg

Howdy Dave,

Youre quite welcome but I aint dead yet, I went to Little Rock (the state capitol) today to the hobby shops and one of the owners said that even though squadron couldnt get the "specific parts" I requested, He knew for a fact that they sell "vacu formed" canopies, so I am gonna contact them again, and ask about their vacu formed parts instead of asking for a specific part from revell monogram., However, again, it will be monday before the customer service dept is open again.
As for the nose cone....well, I am not sure what to do about that other than build your own. You could do like the train enthusiast do and, using a clay "mock up", and some liquid latex, build a mold and pour your own nose cone. you could shape the clay to the model to get the right shape and size, then make your mold and cast it in epoxy or something.
I am gonna keep looking I havent given up yet.

Have a good day,

Greg

Hi all - update - i,ve managed to get hold of a mattel vac-u-form machine from the usa - no instructions with it - should be fairly straightforward to use. anyone ever used one - it copies parts using sheets of plastic which are heated. its got an american 2 pin plug on it - bit worried the voltage might be different if i plug it in and blow it up - anyone still using one of these things - they are from the fifties or sixties - got the idea from an airfix book and got it for about 30 quid ic p&p - any advice or help appreciated before i melt plastic all over the carpet - cheers, dave

Howdy Dave,

Here in the US we use 110v or 120v. So, if ya'lls voltage is different, go by the local radio shack store and ask about a power converter. I am sure that with the demand for people who travel, the converters should be fairly inexspensive.

hope this helps,

Greg

PS: try searching www.google.com for "UK to US voltage converters" I saw some as cheap as $12 (US).
