DUNMINING

i,m just getting back into modelling and was wondering if anyone has any advice on airbrushes and compressors - i,m on a budget and have never used them before - i,ve picked up an old humbrol airbrush, is it a good tool - looks brand new - cheers, dave

Hi Dave and a warm welcome to the forum. I hope that you find our archives and resources usefull and benefit from your time here. If you're a born again modeller feel free to share some of your experiences with us.

My experience with a very old Humbrol Airbrush was that it is really a fine spray gun. Having said that I learned a lot from it and, as it cost me very little, ended up owing me nothing. You will struggle with any sort of fine work but it is very handy for base coats and covering and you will always get a better finish from your Humbrol than you would with a paint brush.

Try it out as much as possible and get to find it's limitations. When you have done that you will be ready to progres to a proper airbrush and I am sure the likes of Nigel will point you in the right direction for a beginners model if that's what you fancy.

By the way is Dunmining anywhere near Dunroaming?!

Have a look at Nigels Airbrush tutorial, maybe we can persuade him to do a Masterclass at Cosford but I don't think we are going to have a room to ourselves so he might be stood on an orange box!!

i have recently got a compressor from http://www.everythingairbrush.com/ i got the first one in the AC series although i have not used it yet as i need an adaptor for my air hose.

if you are going to get a compressor make sure they give you an addaptor or an air hose that fit striaght onto it, then fits onto your airbursh as its quite annoying!

its a lovely little thing and quite cheap as well! they have an ebay shop as well where they generaly go for a little cheaper. (be warned the prices they show on their website are excluding VAT!)

Dunmining,a big welcome here,as Richard has pointed out our tame air brush wizzard Nigel had done a tutorial on these devices,just place airbrush into the search box at the top of every page,it will come up with every mention of airbrush so far covered,and thats a lot as well.

the name is Mostyn. Have been modelling boats for the last three years and am working on a Tug Boat called the Amsterdam. I wish to purchase airbrush eqipment for the painting but don't know a thing about them only that they spray paint.Any information on purchasing airbrush plus air compressor and anything else I need. What are the tutorials on airspraying I have seen people talking about.
Any help would be much appreciated.
