The old Design and Technology I used to work at had some great lathe accessories it was good too because none of the staff knew how much any of the equipment was worth so you could offer peanuts to dispose of the stuff!

Anything worth having was kept locked away behind a very tattered looking flush door which was covered in holes from where the kids had attacked it with hammers!

New heads of dept would skip piles of equipment as they more frequently used materials like corriflute, hot glue guns and cordless screwdrivers for the kids work.

"Sadly" I don't work there anymore! You can still find a fair amount of ex D&T dept school stuff on places like ebay though for often pretty reasonable prices.

Hi Alan
Yup thats the crazy thing in todays England no metal work in schools. No wonder we have a generation of rude couch spuds.
One of my friends teaches in a private school not many miles from me. The school used to have a really well equiped machine shop. Until a woman was put in charge now theres a room full of machines all painted to match the walls and unused!

Most of my big machines come from colleges that are now unable or not prepared to insure the poor little darlings in case they get a scratch from a nasty bit of swarf.

I am angry with the way things have gone, I was lucky i did my time and am glad for it.

All the best Kevin

One of the Machines in the school I worked at was a Horizontal Mill, it was being worked on at the time the previous head of dept left. The remaining bits are probably burried in the grass around the workshops or used as missiles to throw through the school windows, the only parts remaining where the bits too heavy to lift and the parts bolted to the floor!

That was a pretty bad school though, I once found a couple of centre punches that had been bent 90 degrees by being wedged in a lathe tool post and hammered...

...Luckily any accessories where locked away though!
