Wanted - Plans for 16mm 1/19 scale narrow gauge rolling stock for garden railway

My dad wants to set up a Garden Railway -he's already defoliated much of the proposed track bed - and is looking to purchase a Roundhouse Lady Anne and setup a layout in the back garden with Peco 32mm gauge track.

I've been looking at the prices of the rolling stock which is rather expensive and thought best to have a go at making a few open wagons, tipper trucks and a brake van.

I'd like to download some plans, preferably based on an actual design rather than a freelance design and scaled 1/19th, a lot of the designs just seem to be generic to suit both 32mm or 45mm gauges.

Does anyone know of such a site?

I found a few sources for drawings of industrial narrow gauge rolling stock:

The Bredgar & Wormshill Light Railway have published some drawings of their stock dated 1999 by Steve Tompson.

Jeremy Tilston has published a monthly CD-Rom Magazine which he's sadly no longer producing but is selling the back catalogue on CD -
Industrial Narrow Gauge Illustrated combined CD-ROM.

I'm not sure why but there are a few camps in railway modelling it seems - There are the indoor railway modellers 00 etc where detail is paramount, scratchbuilding is popular and there is a wealth of info and kits available. Then there's the hardened model engineer types working on larger gauge locos, turning every last rivet on their lathe and building a fully functioning scale replica...

...then there is 16mm:ft - which is populated by the sort of Mamod, Toy, Triang set, no information, anything goes narrow gauge wagons and tub wagons made from margerine tubs.

I haven't worked out why as the 16mm:ft narrow gauge wagons are a nice size and at 1:20th can be built like the real thing with lots of nice details, the chunky look of the stock also lends itself to modelling. But saying all that two lollipop sticks with cable clips for axle boxes and flora tubs...Grinds his teeth!

Is it an area of scale Railway modelling that time forgot?

I have a few model projects on the bench at the moment - I'll post a couple of pics of the little loco when I get home, unfortunately it's currently in red oxide primer which is so matt all of the little details get bleached out by the camera!

I also refrain from posting images here as the standards on this site are constantly being pushed higher - I didn't want to drag the standard down! :P

I've never been into railway modelling either - I think it was a temporary lapse of sanity that made me want to model a butt ugly little diesel hunslet! I'm also dabbling with the idea of making the next diesel I.C. powered with a little 1.5cc glow engine or some such! Atleast I'd get the exhaust and the oil which would be inkeeping with the little diesel loco!

I have to disagree on one point Alan.

We all actively encourage and promote the inclusion of all standards and fields of modelling. We only try our best and we all started somewhere so I hope we can feel proud of showing what we do here. I'd hate to think we are becoming elitist and putting newcomers off!!

Some of the bikes I put in the gallery were made thirty years ago and look awfull by todays standards but they were all part of my own learning and, hopefully of interest to some people here.

Come on, show us your train, we'd love to see it!!

Pics coming up - be gentle though - it's only a little teeny narrow gauge diesel though! Small but perfectly formed :P
