Never purchased one as ours are home built. Very reliable and quite cost effective that is another option.

I have got to re-think this a bit because my wife went crazy when i suggested spending £200 on a compressor!

Does anyone have any thoughts on some of the following:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Spraymaster-...215478&sr=1-85

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Draper-65958...f=pd_rhf_p_t_2

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Simple2Trade...215501&sr=1-98

How did you make your own?

Amazon.co.uk: Piston Type Mini Air Compressor: Toys & Games

That looks like a pretty good airbrush compressor for the money, is a genuine discounted price too, plus it comes with a regulator and water trap / filter so you can dial in the required pressure when airbrushing. You need the water trap as compressors compress the air and if it's a humid day this water has to go somewhere, the little jar filters that out so you don't get moisture in the air which would cause nasty splattering!

As the compressor doesn't have a resevoir you can use a long hose to help smooth out the airflow so it wont pulse as much.

I'd get a quick release adapter for the airbrush, (nice if you have more than one too) makes it easier to maintain the airbrush as it's a just a quick snap in coupling rather than a thread. Also make sure you get the required pipe threaded ends on your airline so you can connect you're airbrush up. The fittings are sold on ebay and pretty cheap too.

The second two you pointed out where pretty much just for keeping in the car and pumping the tyres up. Those are normally noisy and not meant for prolonged use.

Hope that helps!

Alan

Howdy Phil,

I have a couple compressors, but my favorite has to be the silentaire Scorpion I. This thing is really quiet. Now it doesnt come with an air tank but if ya think about it, unless you are painting something really large, I dont use an air tank (although I do have a tank that I can connect to all of my compressors).

anyway, you can see this compressor here Silent Aire Technology for Portable, Oilless Scorpion Compressors it costs abot $100 (US).

have a good day,

Greg

Don't forget as well if you are looking for a cheap option that every single scrap fridge has a cracking little compressor in it. In fact the silent compressors going for 250 quid nowadays use the same units as fitted to fridges.

First of all you need to find a fridge that has had the gas safely removed as it is illegal nowadays to release the gas yourself to atmoshere. All you need to do is find the black steel tank at the back, remove it, cut it open and inside is a lovely, probably twin cylinder, little reciprocating compressor unit, ready connected to a 240v motor!!

Worth a thought!!

hi all

just wanted to let you know that i finally went for the option as suggested by Alan

it is amazing - quiet enough to use in the kitchen and only £47! It makes airbrushing so much more enjoyable without worrying about the can running out.

very happy. thanks
