compressor wanted

Hi guys

I am finally going to take the plunge and purchase a compressor. Does anyone have one that they would like to sell? Or is it just as cheap to purchase a new one?

I am a little confused by all of the different types availble. I welcome any input on this

many thanks

phill

got mine from fleabay, like the one from aldi, £ 29.99 as a buy it now...i got it through a business seller, it was identical to the one sold in B and Q but without the stickers, ideal for small spray jobs, also great for use with air drill, or impact driver, but also great for checking the car tyres !

Hi Guy

that sounds great

One question that I have is about the noise levels. Is it quiet enough to use indoors without disturbing everyone in the house?!

I wanted a quiet compressor, I first bought one of those small compressors with a 2 litre tank on the bottom, they are sold on ebay for tanning, and modelling etc. The thing arrived and the tank was dented and some of the pipework was bent too. When I tried to remove the compression fittings one just sheared off in the tank, leaving half the thread in there. The other fittings used olives which were mangled and the pipe wasn't even cut the right length to fit into the compression joints.

After being a bit let down by the quality of that product i bought an old Industrial ilent Jun-Air compressor from ebay. Great condition, 25 litre air receiver, silent fridge type compressor. A real joy to use!

I have researched this quite a bit recently and come up with the best price for a small silent compresor with a reservoir. Not cheap but my priority is silence with a reservoir and this one fits the bill:

Tool-Trader.net

There are seven of them in the range but they are all supposed to be silent so I'll be buying a 2/9 when I get home in April.

hi bunk

those look very good, just the type of thing that I need in the house.

Do you have any info on the first model in this range? eg the Shhh Air Compressor (2)

what is the difference between that model and the one you recommended (apart from the price difference!)

thanks

Phill

Depending on how much you like ebay:

Item Number: 190201042676

I bought one of these second hand and it works beautifully, it's industrial quality, spares are available, filters etc. Built for everyday use and last for years too. Retail price about £800 quid with a nice big 25 litre reservoir too.

I don't have experience of the clarke ones but the price of that one Bunker listed is good and you wont be dissapointed by the lack of noise when it's running!

The cheaper one doesn't have a large air tank, so it'll keep running to fill the small tank. The larger one will run and once it's reached a preset pressure in the tank will switch off. When you use the air as its pressure reduces it'll come on again to top it up.

Airbrushing doesn't use masses of air so either will work, the larger one will be quieter as it wont be running so often. Some compressors for airbrushes don't have a tank and tend to cause the airflow to pulse a little bit.
