    Non slip patches

Paul, you might just have something suitable in your 'Diorama' ground cover stash?

    Non slip patches

Paul, I've just remembered. Budgie grit from a pet supplies is also a very fine grade and can be bought in smaller amounts than the sand I mentioned. You will have to sieve it though, to removed the oyster shells that are usually present in the mix. This grit is finer than silver sand and might...

Sqn. Ldr. Basil Gerald 'Stapme' Stapleton's Typhoon ride!.....Normandy, 1944

Thanks Chris. I guess we just get lucky. It's also the only time Mrs. Ron takes any notice of me! ;)

    Non slip patches

Paul. If required, mark out the area with a pencil. Carefully brush same with diluted PVA. Sprinkle silver sand (or any fine grit) through a sieve over area. Go easy, just cover the area lightly. Invert piece. Tap same. Turn piece right way up. Allow to dry and then paint. Works every time and...

Thanks boys! :thumb2: Terrific posts. John (JayCee) You have a good memory John. I've just had a look and found I built the 'village' for a diorama back in 2018! Once again, thanks to all..... Ron

    Thoughts on 1/144 scale.

Why would there be launch steam when the aircraft has clearly just picked up an arresting cable? Simple question from a thick old joiner.....

Sqn. Ldr. Basil Gerald 'Stapme' Stapleton's Typhoon ride!.....Normandy, 1944

Thanks ever so much boys. Really nice comments. :thumb2: Bit of a cop out using an old 1/72 diorama for a few of the shots, but hey ho...... Thanks again. Ron

Andrea, Andy and Paul. Bit of a mishmash of photos, but I'm chuffed the model passes muster. :thumb2: Thanks boys.

Decals on and all finished. Big prop made from a bit of clear plastic. I thought it looked way too big, but it is the correct size. Nice kit, brush painted then chucked..... "Crazy Limey! Frightening ma' boys like that!" Flying over a liberated village...A good wheeze, what...

Completed........ "Oh, I do like to be beside the seaside." Kent Coast July 1940.

Thanks Paul. :thumb2: Such is the speed of builds going through the pages, I'm afraid we are all guilty of missing threads first time round......

Airfix 1/72 bf109e-4 Franz von Werra

Nice progress Tony. I'm really sorry to have shot you down during the Battle of Britain, but it was our sky! At least you were able to see a bit of my country, travel to Canada, then the USA all for free....... "There are no enemies in the Brotherhood of the Skies." 'Stapme' Stapleton

    Thoughts on 1/144 scale.

Colin, I've built a few 1/144's of various sorts. There are plenty to choose from including some very nice commercial aircraft and most are excellent little kits...... I think Nick's idea is great, so how about jumping in the deep end and propose a 1/144 Group Build? It would be good to...

Sqn. Ldr. Basil Gerald 'Stapme' Stapleton's Typhoon ride!.....Normandy, 1944

Leading edge painted. There are yellow decals for this, but it was easier to paint them on. Under side decals on. These are one piece and go directly over the wheel thingies. To change to fitting the full u/c., you have to cut around them and discard the now redundant two pieces of flat...

Sqn. Ldr. Basil Gerald 'Stapme' Stapleton's Typhoon ride!.....Normandy, 1944

Nice one chaps! Thanks Jim. Tony. It went together well. At this stage, being in flying mode there were only a dozen or so bits to stick together. To build an all bells and whistles version would take a fair bit of time as there are loads of internal bits. Some of which look very fiddly and...

Sqn. Ldr. Basil Gerald 'Stapme' Stapleton's Typhoon ride!.....Normandy, 1944

Camouflage marked out with a pencil and then a first brush coat of Dk. green paint applied..... Looks a bit blue-ish, but it really is grey as per previous pickie. Cheers. Ron

Whilst piloting his Spitfire during the B.o.B., Basil Stapleton was the man who actually shot down Franz Von Werra. How about that Mucker! Stapleton's career is well worth a quick read..... This kit was kindly sent to me by member Lee W, along with an FW190 as part of an Airfix 'Dogfight...
