Airfix 1:48 Hawker Hurricane Mk.1 (Soviet colour scheme)

I’d been working on this in bits and pieces but none seemed worthy of an update but I’m calling it finished now. I planned to have some RAF and Soviet mechanics around the open gun bay and the cockpit in a “sharing of information” type scenario but hit a snag. The spray varnish unexpectedly...

    Thinning varnish

Plan on airbrushing aircraft with them (I have older/cheap/rubbish airbrushes that I’ve used in the past, I just can’t remember the ratio. One of them mentions water but doesn’t say how much. I’ll see how thin it is and apply some common sense. Thanks

    Thinning varnish

Quick question for you all. I have AK Interactive and Vallejo varnish (matt, satin, gloss) and wondered what I should thin them with and to what ratio. Any ideas?

    Shortage of Hawker Hurricanes

I'm currently building the 1:48 Airfix Hurricane mk.1 (Tropical) and it's going together like a dream. Any issues I'm having with it are completely of my own doing! I believe that the correct parts are also there if you didn't want to do the Tropical version (with the air filter underneath)...

Airfix 1:48 Hawker Hurricane Mk.1 (Soviet colour scheme)

Quick update. Removed the tape today and it all stayed in place - yay! On the dry-fit test I thought I was going to be left with some horrific gaps to fill. It turns out the rear section just needed widening slightly. It really could’ve been doing with some kind of internal piece to ensure...

    Airfix 1/24 scale Hellcat.

It’s good of you to go into detail on this, Barry, I’m certain I’ll be learning from this thread!

    Airfix 1/24 scale Hellcat.

Really wish I had the space to store 1:32 and 1:24 scale kits but alas I have to live through you Barry. I’m in for this one.

Airfix 1:48 Hawker Hurricane Mk.1 (Soviet colour scheme)

It was a warm and bright day today so I set up camp at the patio doors today since the light was so good. I’ve really only been working on this at the weekends so progress has been slow but steady. The cockpit is painted, instrument panel painted (looks okay from a distance), wings assembled...

Quick question (sorry for creating a whole thread about it).

It’s the needle one, I always squidge too much out of the other ones! Okay, general consensus is leave it until tomorrow so it’s getting left until tomorrow. Thanks guys.

Quick question (sorry for creating a whole thread about it).

Using Tamiya tape, never had any issues with it in the past. My question was more about how long should it take to set. I really should just leave it until tomorrow, I’m not going to do any more of it tonight but I’m like a kid and just want to see what it looks like and if there are any fit...

Quick question (sorry for creating a whole thread about it).

So, using regular Revell polycement I’ve glued the top of my wings to the bottom of the wings and taped it up. Glued both fuselage halves together and taped them up. How long would you wait before taking the tape off? I’m not sure whether or not to leave it until tomorrow or if it would be...

Airfix 1:48 Hawker Hurricane Mk.1 (Soviet colour scheme)

The piece that I cut off was to make way for the Vokes air filter so it’s the black colour scheme I’m going for. I’m going to use the Tamiya Nato Black paint as it’s not quite black and I’m hoping that the pre-shading of the panel lines will still show through. Plus, the black one looks pretty...

Airfix 1:48 Hawker Hurricane Mk.1 (Soviet colour scheme)

It's been a bit slow going but mainly because I was waiting for the seat to arrive and my eldest turning 15 a couple of days ago. I've now put together what will probably be the most time consuming part of it and certainly the most detailed cockpit I've ever built - 15 parts and that's without...

Airfix 1:48 Hawker Hurricane Mk.1 (Soviet colour scheme)

Having all the patience of a hungry two year old, I find myself starting a new kit. My kit and associated add ons for the BoB group build have all arrived and are all ready and waiting but that’s 4 weeks away so I’m getting this one started. I have 4 options but I’m not sure which to do. I’m...

    Drew's Messerschmitt BF109 E-3, Tamiya 1:48

Just easing myself back in after a long time away from building. Tamiya kits always seemed pretty spot on (build-wise anyway) so thought the most taxing bit of this would be the paint work. I thought that about the pilot too, I think his left hand's supposed to be hanging out of the cockpit. I...

Don't mind me, I'll just hang around at the back (late to the party as usual). I actually don't have the words to describe how good this is! Watching this from now on so I don't miss anymore. Outstanding work!

    Model Clean Up

Thanks. I’ve never felt that I needed to clean them up either but other people always do it so just wondered what the general feeling was. Would be good to know about resin parts from others though.

    Model Clean Up

When you’re cleaning your kits prior to building what’s the technique, it’s something I’ve never done. Is it a dip in soapy water, a soak, a wipe? Is it the same for resin? I imagine this would be more porous so I’m thinking this may hold more moisture than a plastic kit. What’s your...
