Question I'm a Newbie - Help

Hi, I'm a Newbie on this site. I came across it by accident whilst looking for Lithoplate.

I am venturing on my first by-plane - Baby Great Lakes designed by Dave Womersley 5' 6" wing span. This is a relatively new venture for me building an RC by-plane. But am looking forward to the challenge.

Could someone out there please help me locate lithoplate which I need to form the tank bay cover? I need 0.15 mm guage approx 1/2 mtr square minimum.

I would be extremely grateful for any help or suggestions.

Many thanks.

Firstly Leslie a very warm welcome to the forum. I hope you enjoy your time with us and make the most of our resources and galleries.

As for making a Bi-Plane..........sit down, relax, get a cup of tea and read Greyheads SE5a build thread from the start. It will take you a while as he is now looking at over three hundred postings in the thread, however it should be made into a book when he is finished.

The techniques he uses are fascinating and he uses a lot of litho plate. At the end I would suggest you drop Greyhead a PM and I am sure he will be more than happy to share his resources and suppliers with you.

Hi Bunkerbarge, thanks for the welcome. I have not a clue where to find anything yet so where will I find Greyhead's SE5 article you referred to?

Hi Leselma,

Welcome to the Forums and I hope you find what you are looking for.

I see Bunk has already pointed you in the right direction for the use of Litho Plate, As you will see Greyhead has used the stuff to great effect on his new SE5-A. The thread itself is worth a read just for the Beautiful workmanship on this model which is now really coming to Life.

Enough to Inspire anyone to get building !!!

Regards....Mark.

Another welcome Leselma. Your source of litho-plate is the printing trade, slightly out of fashion with new technology but still available. Check bigger quality printers not the corner shop. You will probably get it cheap or free. Happy scrounging.

Leslie

Only just caught up with this thread sorry I didn’t notice it sooner.

Try your local printer, but do persevere, I got knocked back at the first 2 I tried; despite the new technology there’s still a lot of the “old guard” printers about who still use litho plate. When I went for my second supply I took an example of what I’d made, the cowl for the Albatros Dva, and he was very interested to see what I’d done with his “scrap”, I think it’s worth building a rapport when you find the right supplier.

As you will have gathered “I luv litho plate me” so any questions just ask and I’ll do my best to help.

Grahame
