hi everyone,can someone please tell me why the motors in the model ship i am building wont stop or go into reverse,as i am a little stumped too the reason.many thanks for any ideas!!!!

hi modelmaker 1968, welcome to the forum.....

i am sure we can sort out your dilemma but first we need a few more details....

the ship you are building is it radio controlled or just motorised ?

what is the ship, do the motors have any markings or names on eg mabucchi, or maybe monoperm or any distinguishing marks/ logos ?

if it is radio controlled what type of radio set up are you using?, what type of speed controller are you using, is it a mechanical type with metal contacts/ sliders or is it an electronic type..... if so what type, what unit is it ?

also what is providing the power, what battery/ what voltage...?

all these factors could be a cause for the motors not reversing/ stopping....

some motors will only run in one direction.... they cant reverse, but i think this is unlikely, many brushless motors are only designed/ programmed to only run in one direction....

the speed controller ( if one is fitted) may be the cause, maybe the neutral is not set up correctly, maybe there is insufficient power to activate the relay to throw the motors in reverse, or maybe the opposite, maybe the input voltage is too high or the current draw is too high for the reversing relay to handle .....?
maybe it is just a case of setting up the neutral position again....?

i am sure we can get to the bottom of this if you let us have a few more details to investigate !

Hi Modelmaker 1968, as new to trains suggests I am sure we can help but we could do with a bit more information. There is a possibility the motor has a built in reversing switch which could be set in one direction or seized etc.

I think a couple of pictures may be a good idea if you can get them organised.

Modelmaker 1968, If its r/c with radio gear fitted then without the addition of more info, check that the trim tabs on the t/mitter are set to neutral and that any trim pots on the speed controler are also set to neutral.
