Hello Everyone! .. Fairy by Huntsman

Hi all,
New to your group :-)

Way back in 95 I built a Fairy off shore cruiser by Huntsman.
I forget the name of the manufacturer but it's 46" long I think (I'm not at home at the mo) and I bought the all wood kit, a glass hull version was also available.

Anyway, I did all of the main build, painted, fitted prop tube and engine (OS 90 I think) then I got a bit lost and left it alone.
I have all servos and a nice TX with a brushed silver case (again I'm not at home to check) but it was quality at that time.

While here at my folks I checked out the local model shop and it's rekindled my interest.

I would really like to finish this boat but I'm completely lost when it comes to the engine, rc gear, petrol tank, etc.

What I'm after is someone to complete it, or at least lives close enough to me to give me hands on help/guidance.

It's been so long the wind screen has gone yellow!!, it also got damaged so I'm going to have to repair it anyway.
It would be nice to give it it's maiden voyage before I'm too old :-)

Also, I really want to complete it because it was built while my left wrist/hand was fixed in a metal frame due to a nasty accident. So I built it practically with one hand, much sweat and fustration but I won out and it means a lot to me!

I live close to Dolgellau North Wales, does anyone know anyone living up this way good with RC Boats and might be willing to complete or help??

I'll post a few pics when I get home to give you an idea where I got to.

Hope you can help.

Cheers in advance,

Steve.

Hi Stiks, before you go for I C check that you can use the boat on you local lakes, in the Midlands we have very few waters that allow i.c due to oil and noise polution also the speed they can reach. I would be well worth looking at electric drive using a big Graupner motor, cheaper to run and acceptable on all the boat lakes I know, the cost of motor/speed controler & batteries etc is probably no more that a 10cc i/c and starter and tanks, no volatile fuel to buy and store. Regards radio you need to be on 27mhz AM / 40mhzAM (not popular) but more popular now is 40mhz FM regards Aquarama

Hi Stiks and welcome to the site,

The Huntsman is a popular model so a quick browse on the net will turn up plenty of results for it.

You should be able to replace your windscreens easily enough as the material is available from most model shops although I am not sure of your nearest down there in Dolgellau.

So long as your radio is on 27 or 40 Mhz fm then you are safe for sailing. Not sure how many ponds down your way but I have no doubt there will be one or two lakes you can use.

There is a pond at Llanfairfechan for I/C boats if you can get to travel that far...yes I know it is a trek, at least it is a nice large pond for the i/cer's though.

Good Luck !!

Regards........Mark

Thank you both for your replies.
Sorry for the late response .... I had a computer crash had to reinstall and lost a lot of info. :-(

I've have decided to pull out the IC engine Aquarama, save that hassle.
I've decided to go brushless and install a J.Perkins C50 Energy motor and a Robbie Roxio 960 ESC.
This advise was given to me by Westbourne models who have supplied exactly this setup fore a few Huntsmans.

Does this sound about right for my boat?
