      Swann-Morton knifes

I was going to start stocking x-acto but from what I've read people seem to prefer Swann-Morton so I will be getting those in in the next week or so but I need some advise their range is massive, which would be the best to go for? and what quantity do you usually buy blades in and what sort of price do you pay?

This is what I was thinking of

I have nearly always used Swann-Morton scalpels. I have the traditional solid brass handles and the retractable with 10A blades. That looks a huge list of blades you are thinking of. How similar are they to each other?

I have always used either 10's or 11's. I can't remember which is which but one is curved and one is straight. Over the many years I've been using them I've never felt the need to use anything else.

as above. Brass handle, have a retractable too but only because it was given to me. 10a or 11 blades. Both straight, ones shallower but very similar and depends which packet i pick up first. Never needed any others. I prefer these as blades are available everywhere, cheaper and they don't roll off the table when you place it down. (let's face it. A round handled knife's a bloody silly idea)

I only ever use No.1 blades, can't get on with those flimsy surgical jobbies
      I get a boxes of 50

      Hi John
I use either 10a or 11 - the straight edge ones, and No.10 - curved blade (good for removing moulded on detail).
I think any of these would sell.
I can't remember how much I pay but I buy them by the box load as I use them for work also.
Don't bother with the sterile ones - unless somebody's got a side line in home surgery (by the looks of it I think you've already discounted those)

      Hope this helps

Looking at their site for blades I could go for 10's rounded, 10a's pointed and 11's fine pointed. should cover most work. Maybe some heavy blades for the "rough stuff"
As for handles? Some thing flat and made of metal! no 3 #0933 and 9 #0909 if they fit the blades!
There sure is a lot to choose from!

Thanks this is all good info, you have saved me a fortune so far as I was going to stock everything lol I think what I might do is stock more of the ones mentioned here and maybe a scattering of some of the others, certainly the metal handles and maybe a few brass ones although they do seem quite expensive compared to the normal metal ones.
