Question Ok which Tank do i get?

      Right tankie type blokes....

As you can probably gather i'm not an armour model builder. I do have a 88mm Flak 36/37 and a 20mm Flak 38 in my stash but i seriously want to add a couple of tanks.

I love the Panther and King Tiger shapes and was wondering which kits/manufaturers you'd recommend? Probably looking at 1/35 scale

Tamiya do superb tanks, fit will be good and should you fancy aftermarket stuff there should be some about. Italeri and Dragon , especially Dragon, make some superb kits but they are not cheap.

Have a go at Dragon's King Tiger in 1:35 scale, beautiful model & molds. PE parts and a gun breech so you can have the hatches open too. Just do me a favour Allyne, don't get Italeri's 1/35 Marder III because it's rubbish lol

      My King Tiger

      Hi Al
In my opinion for your 'chosen tanks' I'd go Tamiya or Dragon. Tamiya - you'll get a detailed, well engineered kit that will go together easily. Dragon now offer superior details and additional 'extras' like PE screens, 'Magic' tracks and metal barrels (sometimes) - but these kits do come at a premium. If it were me and I wanted to build an accurate, detailed model straight from the box I'd go Dragon. They also do a version of both tanks with moulded Zimmerit, if you fancy that look without the hassle of applying it yourself.
There's a pic of my 506 Abt King Tiger here:

Ps. Got 2 King Tigers, 2 Panther Gs and a late Panther A in the stash - they're all either Tamiya or Dragon!

Sorry for the hijack ,but what do you guys think of the Academy 1/35 Sherman with troops WW2 (not sure the Mk. of it but it is the angular Sherman, not the round hull one)

I refrain from the more expensive "name brand" stuff as I am a rookie still with armour.

Well i took all your advice and i'm now the very proud owner of...

1/35 Tamiya Panther + extra PE grills (was second hand but in fantastic condition and alot cheaper then standard new)

      1/35 Tamiya Jagdpanther L.V.

1/35 Tamiya King Tiger - Porsche Turret (second hand again but excellent condition)

Looks like i'm gonna have to look up on weathering techniques for tanks now

      Morning Al
      Excellent choices sir!
It may not only be weathering you will have to tackle, you may have to have a go at Zimmeriting the Porsche KT as I don't know of a single one used in combat that didn't have this paste applied. It isn't too difficult though and really rewarding to get it looking right to scale.
Welcome to the wonderful world of AFV modeling!
      Cheers
