| Squiffy,
I promise I'll get them out and take a few pictures when I get home in June.
Fondest ones are:
1) Tamiya Heron Suziki and Yam YZ1 (Bary Sheene & Kenny Roberts style) on a base made out of a pilot ladder step stained with Soy Sauce!! Made when I was a cadet in 1977.
2) About three or four different Tamiya Ducati's
3) A very old large scale Italieri Zundap with sidecar.
4) A very old Heller 900 Honda Bol d'Or
5) Tamiya Suzuki Gamma
6) A jap kit of a Harley lowrider
7) A very briefly sold kit of a vintage Harley. I can't remember anything about it and when my mates decided to buy one you couldn't get them.
8) A very very old Heller kit of the 750 Kwak Mach 3. I made this while I worked in a model shop as a teenager and this is the only one I have left that was used as a display model in his shop window.
9) A very big Paris/Dakar BMW, can't remember the manufacturer but I think it may have been Heller.
10) Tamiya Paris/Dakar BMW
One or two other odds and sods.
They are in a glass cabinet but unfortunately you have to lug the whole thing out from the wall very carefully as the access is from the rear. It was actually the sales counter from a garage that was closing down but it must have been looked after as the top was not too scratched. |

| I'm afraid the 916 isn't there!
The Dukes are an old Hailwood replica road bike, an SCR Racing one and a standard road machine.
Have you ever tried riding a 916? Great on the track but unbelievably impractical and uncomfprtable for road use.
By the way justifying two bikes when I work away from home for seven months of the year was quite a job.
In the end I didn't bother, I enjoy them so I got them!
My VFR is seven years old, looks as good as they day I bought it and it has about 6000 miles on the clock. 3000 of them was Italy and back six years ago! I wouldn't part with it for the world though.
Up on top of the Pennines, drop into one of my favourite corners and apply the power steadily until the engine really growls and the bike catapults out into the straight.
I couldn't image not being able to do that when I feel like it! |

| | Guest | In that case nigel you would love my bike i expect, its a VTR1000, basically a honda made V-twin based around the Duke engine but on a softer chassis. It also has large twin pipes which pur at over 120 decebels (with the race cans on). 0-60 in about 3.5seconds and 0-120 in under 12! 122BHP @ the rear!
Theres miles of torque being a V-twin and one can really pump her out of corners, short-shift round the bottom of the box, and let the 120horses roll you forwards! Also being a twin, its really nice to wack onto the back wheel (on private roads of course officer) as you can use the torque much like dragging the rear brake!
My bikes very much non-standard and has many mods including, cams/heads/sprockets/chain/wheels/CTT's/air filter/cans/front fork seals and oil + lots of other stuff. It may not be a GP bike but it gives them a run for their money.....
....then theres my stunt bike GSXR600 project :-)
The 916- a great bit of engineering but inmo thats where it ends, in real life the engines suck and requrie heavy attention, parts cost the earth, the seat boils your behind on journeys over 50miles! I could go on and get techy but ill leave it there! Also 99% of people who buy dukes cant ride them for love nor money as their a status symbol.
RICHARD- cant wait to see those pics, i love bikes, model bikes are just even better! The Tamiya range has also been good in my opinion, as has Protar. However now when Protar went bus Italeri got all the moulds, next time u get a chance check out the new 1:6th scale range (could be 1:9). They are very good kits, great detail, nice fitting and ok decals, but they are the same as the tam 1:24ths in price!
I always found with bike kits getting good colour matchs hard as the colour codes from the bikes maker is oftern not easily replicated! (eg:gsx1300r)

| It's a close call for me Squiffy, I've always made models and I've always had a bike. I wouldn't like to choose really I get so much out of both.
I used to have a relatively new Ducati Paso with straight through Yoshimura's on it. Handling was not up to much but the noise was beautiful!! It used to set of car alarms as I went past them.
I was very tempted by the VTR when it came out but when I looked at some of the first ones I was very unimpressed with the overall finish. The trouble was I had been spoilt by the excellent finish of the VFR. I was looking for a big twin that I didn't have to continue mucking around with, unlike the Paso!!
Then they brought out the VFR 800 and I went for one of them. The timing has actually been modified to offset the firing so it is more like the racing NSR "Big Bang" set up so consequently the growl when you grab a handfull is quite something but it can purr around town without making a sound. |

| A couple of snaps I have on this computer.
The VFR is "mine", the Intruder is "ours" and the Rocket Three is a mate of mines. |
