Airfix Challenger

As well as making Aircraft , i used to make Model tanks and cars . And ships. I was looking at the Airfix Challenger box top at Huddersfield and wondered if anyone had made it and is it any good?
I have seen the Tamiya and Dragon kits but thought the Airfix one may be best .Any suggestions? Also i want to make a Bradley Fighting Vehicle and don't want to spend too much.

What scale are you looking at colin?

As far as im concerned Tamiya and Dragon are LIGHTYEARS in front of Airfix in every respect, even more so when it comes to armour. The Dragon kits will be much more complicated and harder to build than their Airfix equivalents.
It all depends on what your modelling skills are, how much you want to spend, and how much detail you want in the kit! From the photos of your last aircraft i would recommend you trail the Tamiya version.
Tamiya also make a good bradley!

Challege the Challenger

Thank Squiffy
I was a bit vauge but thats normal for me. 1/35 is the scale im looking at. I saw some cracking models at Huddersfield and thought ..Why not. .I don't do dioramas though, so i may have to have a go at that to find somewhere to put so it looks right

Colin the Airfix Challenger is i beleive the old heller / Ertyl kit basically the outlines good but the detail is a bit basic and quite heavy! The Tamiya one is actualy a beauty and well worth the money if you want a good challenger 2

Yeah i ecco Nigel here, you cant go wrong with the Tamiya version, anything armour related in 1:35th has to be tam or dragon unless you want to spend millions in which case its all about Accurate Armour!

If you mention the word Airfix to most hardened AFV modellers (such as Nigel) i doubt you will be hearing amazing things! (if your on a tank craze colin check nigels 1:16th Tiger in the tank forum)

When you say you don't do diorama's reminds me of years ago when I used to make motorcycle models and have them all lined up on a shelf.

I didn't do diorama's either but one day I put one on a base, added a few textures and the model really came to life. From there I experimented with bases and realised just how effective a very simple base could be.

Don't be put off by the complexity of some of the diorama's you see and have a go at the odd simple one.

As an example for an 1/72nd aircraft, get an old picture frame and stick a piece of "Wet and Dry" over the glass. Add a few simple weathering streaks and oil spots and it will look like a runway. Add a vehicle and a figure and the model will really come alive for very little effort.

I thought about dioramas but they take up too much space. I have my 1/35 willys jeep on a small plinth with some scatter material on it and it looks ok but that is all im going to do.
Thanks all
