1/76 Sd.Kfz. 124 Wespe (completed)

Thought i'd post a quick picture of this model i've just finished. It's only the 2nd model i've done, so go easy on me lol

A Revell 1/76 (ex-matchbox) Sd.Kfz 124 Wespe, self propelled howitzer.

Picked it up on ebay for £2.50 posted.

It came with a small diorama base (sand/rocks/palm tree) to display it on, as you can see! there's also 2 little figures to display with it, one guy on his knee with a spanner and an officer with binoculars. I still need to paint the flesh on those though so they're not in the photo.

Was a fairly simple build, none major problems. I chose the 21st Panzer Division Afrika Korps paint/decal scheme, as the paint scheme was rather simple as you can see lol

The tracks were originally silver and it had no painting instructions for them, so i ended up doing them black as the silver looked stupid

Anyways, i'll get some more pictures up sometime, but im fairly pleased with how it turned out and i learned some more during the build.

5th, if that is only your second model it is a superb job. I didn't even paint my first few, they were warships and I was about 7 years old so I could get away with it!

I completely agree that silver would have looked unrealistic and black is a lot better. Next time try gunmetal paint. It dries to a very nice satin finish with a metallic look that would suit your tracks very nicely and looks even more realistic than the black.

That's a very commendable job, 5th. It looks very "new"; as you build more models you'll no doubt pick up weathering techniques, which will make it even better. Swanny's page (http://www.swannysmodels.com/) has a really good tips section including weathering. I recommend it to all.

Well done, keep up the good work.

i aggree, the gun metal would look better but the black looks much better than silver would have. my dad used to make these as a kid back when the tracks where flimbsy black rubber, he used to leave them black and it looks just as good as your does.

i see there is a hammer on the top, get tamiya xf-64 (red-brown) it dries for a perfect wood effect and then paint the top gun-metal or metalic grey. i know obvioulsy you cant do that now but just a tip for the future.

a very good job then.

and 5th...why do you need a airbrush, your paint job looks flawless!!!

Your Dad!!!!!!!!!!

I used to make Airfix tanks with rubber tracks. I therefore must be as old as your dad!

I think I'm going to fall on my sword.
