| Hi Karlo and welcome the forums, hope you find what you are looking for here as we have a vast range of experienced Modellers here who should be able to answer any questions you have.
In answer to your question above, I have consulted my magic Bible aka The Model Makers Handbook,
Zimmerit can be reproduced in 2 ways as follows:
1. add a thin coat of polyfilla to your model (polyfilla can be found in any hardware shop and is not expensive) and then use a fine hacksaw blade to cut the grooves/ridges...this is as per the real method and can be fiddly to do at model sizes...but can still be done !!
2.Engrave the plastic on the model using a hot needle or pyrogravure to mark out the zimmerit...this might take a bit of time but it can be done and will give good results....the benefit of this is it is easier to control the tool when doing the engraving.....do a test on a scrap bit of plastic first.
I am sure some other answers to favourite methods of doing this will appear on here as there are a few of us tankies on here......so watch this post !!! I am sure Nigel D will come up trumps having seen his excellent tanks !!!
Regards......Mark

| For 1/16 size Tam tigs (TYPE TIGER 1 INTO GOOGLE IMAGE SEARCH AND IDEAS FOR AUTHENTIC PATTERNS WILL BE YOURS.
Talcum pwder a flat level surface. Get a straight glass or non wood rolling pin and flatten out a blob of Milliput (available from anywhere that does models). roll out the M/put until its about 1mm thick. use a sharp, flat straight blade to remove the M/put from the glass...very carefully!
Apply M/put to whichever area you need it (Roughen the surface it is applied to and press it on hard).
Quick method)to give the correct Zim effect use a 4mm thick cog from an old rc gear box and roll it onto the milliput, ensuring that talc is liberally applied so as not to clog the teeth. (long method) .5mm x 4mm flat implement, talc the applied M/put, the dab away to your hearts content.
DABBING AT A 30 DEGREE ANGLE GIVES THE CORRECT "LONG U" effect |

| You paint Milliput exactly as you would paint a plastic surface. |

| Additional to the excellent advice above -When moulding Milliput remember that water is an excellent way of smoothing it out minimising the rubbing down process as it sets like rock, when working against glass use like dough when flour stops it sticking, instead use pumice or talc or cornflour ( cake making department in supermarkets ) will assist a lot in these situations.

| Wood fillers usually contain wood dust and a very volatile base that might not do the job you are after. The finish would be very rough and unrealistic and it doesn't work as well as other types of fillers.
Polyfilla is a household filler for use on plaster etc and can be purchased in a fine consistency. I would ask the question at your model shop and see what they can do, they must supply some sort of fillers for plastic models.
I have used Das modelling clay in the past and squadron putty, although that may be a bit thin for your purposes. |

| Sorry dude,,,i dont know what a universal filler like Milliput would be called in other parts of the world.
If you do get round to putting zimmerit on your tigger, remember practice your techniqiue on scrap first and practice alot. Dont make the mistake i did by covering the entire model then marking the pattern on...by the time i had done one side the other side had dried so hard i couldnt put the pattern on!!!! |

| ***Sorry to hear of the difficulty in supplies Karlo in your country, here is another way around this, get some plaster of paris from a chemist or builders merchant, mix thinly with water and give that a try,use any old model to see how it covers,a lot of these fillers are made from it anyway.
