piccies

ok here are a few pics of the diorama that won me best military vehicle diorama at the 03 scottish ipms nats...please excuse the orrible quality of the pics..if anyone would like more info ..please feel free to fill my inbox...

ok details....its an old italieri kit released by sveda..built straight out the box..T34/76. its wearing JSU 122 tracks..as some of the earlier T34s came from the factory.with these fitted ..before the waffle pattern tracks seen on later variants...all the accessories are scratchbuilt [ammo boxes cammo netting] the chains are old costume jewelry items...the figures are various tamiya and dragon figures ..the cammo ponchos' and helmet covers are made from Rizla paper..the snow is good old bicarb coloured to stop it yellowing with age..the icy puddles are candle wax and clear varnish..the groundwork is papier mache..my favourite method..[costs nothing] the clumps of grass are from an old shaving brush..the skulls on the two corpses [one under tank in foxhole] i made from milliput..weapon straps are made from the metal type toothpaste tube.[another favourite] all handpainted in enamels..weathered with oils.. and pastels..
these pics are not very good ..ill post more when my pal [semi pro photographer] does another portfolio for me.. thanks for looking...

Absolutely superb. I love the simplicity of the scene with all the elements executed perfectly. The idea of the scenario is what makes this work as, at the end of the day, the modelling is all tried and tested techniques simply well done.

Thanks for sharing, I certainly look forward to more!

agreed.. composition counts for a great deal, i have no revelations or modern miracles to reveal , my work is simple ..bagain basement ..and somewhat effective.. i have used PE sets and resin aftermarket parts..on some of my stuff.. but i get the greatest satisfaction making details and accessories..out of everyday bits n pieces..i find the price of most aftermarket bits ..make me sweat blood..and can turn a £20 project into three figures quite easily.....nightmare..
i see by your comments you have my techniques sussed.. a good eye sir
appreciated...

wow

Wow... Very impressing scene. The detail is remarkable. Even after knowing some of the secrets, I am still impressed how well it all fits in.

Excellent work,I am going to steal some of your ideas in the future, had never heard of the candle wax one before.
And rest assured you are not alone in not wanting to spend lots of money on things like etched parts that can be easily made from shims of pizza base metal and other scrap.
