Thanks for your kind words Deakon!
I'm glad you all are finding this thread a bit interesting.

Making of the underside of the hood, where the front axel and the steering is going to be attached.

The drawing. This part should be quite easy to assemble.

Parts to be glued to 1mm karton

The cutting and assembly of the frame have started.

And a lot of cover parts

Part is finished. A couple of paperstrips are missing, but I have them glued to 0,2mm karton ready to be glued into place.

Part placed where I think it belongs....

Finished the bottom construction with the two paperstrips and glued the piece into place together with the back wall"

Then I made the top cover/protection plate over the front axels.
The drawings.

Top side of the cover, finished and edgepainted.

The underside with the arrangement for the axels to be attached.

I think I'll wait with gluing theese parts together until I have finished all the axel and steering details.

The axels rolled with 2mm centerhole.Assembled and painted. The brass axels will be painted and joined together with the steering and wheel arrangement later on.

The axels will be mounted like this.

I also made the front fenders bur will NOT put them on now....It very easy to destroy them when I work on the vehicle and forgets myselves....they are kind of fragile just like the rear ones that are having a hard time surviving this build

Finishing the front axel, the steering, and the wheel connections.

The drawing.
A lot of small rondells/tubes was to be made.

Some of the parts used for this first stage of the construction.
The bigger parts is wrapped around 0,5mm kartion and the strips are rolled against 2mm-1,5mm and 1mm

Part 39 is glued to the axels and the part with the rod is just put into place to see how it fits.

The wheel connectors.

The drawings

A lot of parts to be used on this operation.

First stage was the outer part.

It came out quite nice

The finished result. It still needs some paint.....

Johnny I have to say I am finding this thread absolutely fascinating. It has completely opened my eyes to what goes into a card model and made me realise that it is far more of a build than any plastic model could be.

The results are incredibly realistic and a long long way from the paper cut outs that I always imaginged them to be.

I can't thank you enough for taking so much time posting this thread and showing us all just what a card model can be nowadays.

The finished item is going to be stunning, and you haven't been doing this for long!

Johnny whoever designed this model must be a genius, the attention to detail and the way he has worked everything out as well, are there many kits in this particular range ? like Bunkerbarge I cannot believe that you have not been modelling long in card,it is a work of art in miniature.

Thanks for your nice words guys!

I have not been doing modelling for a long time.As everybody else I built plastic sets when I was a kid, and I rediscovered modellbuilds after finding an add for a free papercub over at Avsim(flightsimsite). So I downloaded it and built it.....

So this is my first cardmodel......
My second one was a cessna 172, also very easy to build.

So I started to gain some interest in this kind of modelling, and started to search the net for papermodelling, and found that it was a whole new world of modelling out there
And so the snowball was rolling....
And since November 2005 I have built the three models I have pics of in the gallery, and one abandoned project of a hummer ambulance.
And now I'm building the Kübel at work and a Horch at home.

Johnny that is a cute little Piper Cub,just realised that card is an ideal medium, if you want to pass the time away somewhere cutting out parts to build later, for example in your lunch break or similar, just a pair of scissors,a plastic ziplock bag for the small bits and then build them later at home.
Was the Hummer ambulance a bad design ?

I'm not quite sure about the Hummer....It looked for me as it was some design error, but it could also be my lack of skill since it was a very advanced model and I picked it as my first one after the cub and cessna.

Drawings

Window made of two frames of 0,5mm karton and with overhead foil as glass

Windowsides are made of 0,5mm karton.
The window is just loosely placed to see how it looks.
And the dust is also just to see the effect of the wipermarks and will be enhanced in the end

Overview
