Terminator 2 Hunter Killer Tank

Hi,

I'm new to these forums, and I've come here to see if anyone can help me. I'm a complete newbie to modelling any kind of kit.

Thing is, I've just bought a 1:35 scale Argonauts Terminator 2 Hunter killer tank from ebay in a built condition. Acording to the person I bought it from, it has had a grey acrylic base coat applied to it.

My problems start when it comes to finishing the model. As far as I can tell all it needs is a finishing coat on it, but I'm not sure what kind of paint to use on it.

I've read that it's best to use sprays on vehicle kits to get an even finish.
I don't really want to buy an airbrush kit just to do a one off model, so could any of you here recommend some spray paints suitable for this kit.

I think the model is made of either metal, resin or vynil, but it could be various materials.

Any advice would be great, thanks.

For your first foray into spraying you could look at the mini spray tins on the market. Humbrol used to do some good ones but they have since ceased business so you will have to look a bit further.

I recently painted my Revel U-boat with Tamiya mini spray tins of acrylic paint and they came out very nicely.

To get the feel for spraying without any of the hassle you will find mini tins very convenient but if you want to develop your skills beyond the basics you will soon be hankering for a simple cheap small spray gun or an airbrush.

I've had a look on the internet and theres plenty of tamiya spray cans that could be just what I need.

Alright, little update.

I've got the tank, glued all the parts onto it, and have filled in the gaps in the model and sanded them off.

Got a question. I've bought a can of tamiya silver aluminium spray paint, and i'm going to spray the model. Only concern is, that the parts that I filled with putty and sanded off are lacking the acrylic base paint that the model came with, and I never thought to order some acrylic paint just in case some would get removed from the model.

My question is that is it possible to spray the tamiya spray onto the sanded vynil parts of the model (they are small areas), without applying any acrylic paint to these parts.

I know it sounds like i'm trying to cut corners here, but I really don't want to order a bottle of acrylic paint just for a few small areas.

Flat tamiya sprays or the XF colours in an airbrush would work a treat!

Remmber silver will come out a "shiny grey" rather than true chrome like silver! For the best results you might want to use that tamiya spray as a very fine undercoat and then use "Alclad 2" to get a true metal finnish!

Just an idea....COOOOOOOOOOOOOL Model too!

Thanks for the advice.

The model is practically finished now, apart from the odd paint touch-ups I have to do here and there.

I'll try to get some before and after pics up soon!!
