Johan, I would take care with the repainting. I agree the red is a bit much at the moment but it is a very accurate rust effect so I would try to tone it down rather than a complete repaint and loose it all together.
I think the way they sag between the idler wheels looks superb as well!

Hi Zapper. Nice looking tank mate.I`m new to the site and don`t know much at all about modelling; that`s why I`m here really, trying to pick up a few tips. Having said that, why not try dry brushing the extremities of the tracks with some humbrol gunmetal paint (tin No.53) to imitate the effect of the tracks coming into contact with the ground. Just an idea. All the best,
Anthony.
When I paint tracks on AFV's I use a basecoat of matt black followed by a drybrush with gunmetal and then use some weathering pigments - MIG rust pigment and then a final highlight with some silver to pick out the details on the raised surfaces prone to wear. The weathering powder really makes for an authentic rust effect.
Vallejo Model Air Acrylics are good and their gunmetal has a really nice almost metal flake effect which dulls down nicely after the weathering powers are applied but still looks very metallic.
