Primer Color Of Tiger 1 Early Production?

HI all around. My good friend Jeff is coming over at Christmas to have his 1/35 Tiger 1 (early production 1941) painted German Gray. Part of the weathering I would like to apply is "chipped paint". I would like to know what primer color was used in these tanks prior to their final gray color coats. Or do I have to use a diffrent primer color in order to contrast well with the German gray and have a more pronounced "chipped-off paint look"? Your thoughts on this shall be highly appreciated. Merry Christmas!

This thread discusses something similar:

http://www.scale-models.co.uk/showth...light=interior (Sd.Kfz. 251/1 Ausf.c Half track interior colour)

Also the link:

http://miniatures.de/html/int/camouf...-interior.html

Mentions the German RAL colours used and the sequence the vehicle parts where painted. The primer used was a dark brick red - I imagine a red oxide primer was used. Hope that helps and Merry Xmas!!

The above link is quite interesting because it gives details about how the vehicle was painted, for example some of the hatches would be closed when the vehicle was painted the panzer grey colour so the edges around those would still just have the red oxide primer, the engine compartments were left in primer and some of the sheet metal stowage bins were fabricated elsewhere and as supplied would have been painted black. After they were attached to the vehicle only the outsides would be sprayed the panzer grey, still remaining black inside.

It's little details like that that help give a model an additional level of realism and the kind of thing that only becomes an issue when you start to model the thing.
