tamiya challenger II

The colour needed for the main body (TS-46, light sand) has been withdrawn from sale, but in my opinion, apart from some weathering the colour is ok. Whats your opinions?

you can buy the sand colour in the normal little pot of paint and just use an airbrush.

is there ment to be a picture there?

nope, no picture in that post. i dont want to buy a air brush, as this is my first model, and i dont want to spend money on equipment that i may only use once. if i buy another model i may go with the air brush choice

gun metal withdrawn??!!

although to be honest i just use metalic grey instead anyway, gun metal seems to dark to my eye.

the "light sand" is XF-59, its actually "desert yellow" but is a pretty good colour, you could always lighten it or whatever.

dont mean to be rude here...but if you dont want an airbrush as you wouldnt want to only use it once, but you might buy one for the next model you do. isnt that kind of contradicting yourself there?

an airbrush is an amazing investment and well worth it. search on these forums for a few threads about various makes/models and also give the ARC forums a go, its worth signing up and searching in the tools n tips section, there are hundreds of threads on airbrushes/compressors and how to use them...etc

http://www.arcforums.com/forums/air/index.php

hope that helps,

Richard

I'm a great fan of the mini spray cans such as the Tamiya ones and the now discontinued Humbrol range.

They are perfect for a nice finish on a large surface and there is all the convenience that goes with them such as no cleaning out!!

Not the cheapest option but for a one off they are cheaper than investing in an airbrush as long as you can find one the correct colour. It is always worth looking through the automobile manufacturers colours as well although most of them are of course gloss finish. Some of these could even be applied and then painted over with a matt finish but I would do a test piece before committing to the model.

I'v ordered a cheap air brush (just to start me off) it was £8 with no air, so I ordered a can of air too. I use to race 1:10 cars, so have sprayed body shells before, is if any different?

yes, you will also need to order an apropriate thinner as well.

eg tamiya thinner (i think its X-1 not sure though) search for thinning paints and there are a few threads on here explaining it)

and also it is worth priming the model, you can either order a tamiya spray can primer (which are darn good) or get a halfords primer or something. they both work well.
