Leopard 1 A4

Hi folks.

A couple of pics of my Tamiya Leopard 1 A4. 1/16 scale

Obtained it second hand, with a few bits missing ( MG 42 and wing mirrors etc ) and decided to do a few mods, as the original only was 2 channel ie forward / rearwards left / right.
It now has traversing turret and Diesel engine start up sound, working front and rear lights and rotating warning beacon.

I am in the process of making a barrell raise / lower mechanism and hopefully firing BB pellets. I have started to upgrade the wheels to ball bearing races instead of the plastic bushes, but its a rolling restoration.

Howdy Sub,

Awesome.....thats twice in an hour i have been astounded by large tanks. The model looks really good, I will make the same suggestion to you I did to gerry, get some groud level photos outside of the tank in the grass or on the sidewalk with grass in background.
Other than that one suggestion, all i can say is Awesome!

have a good day,

Greg

Thanks Guys,

It should get more interesting after I just found a web site / videos of the real things

A bit of a different subject for me to have a go at, but I can " play " with this one when its wet and cold outside.
( as long as I keep away from the furniture SHE says ) lol

Hi Sub

can i ask how you have worked the turret rotation on your model, i am rebuilding the 1/16th Gepard but having trouble with the turret rotation. I have looked at AFV models but the system they ahve there is out of my price range - any ideas on what i can so?

This is an all new scale for me as i tend to do 1/35th.

regards

Tony

Hi Tony.

I managed to obtain a broken 1/24 scale Hen Long type 90 tank for a few quid ( the electronics amongst other things had packed up ).

So I pulled it apart and removed the turret ring and motor assembly.

The Hen Long turret ring is limited in travel, to overcome this and get 360 degree of rotation you have to file in a few extra teeth on the turret ring ( the H.L one has a piece of the ring where there are no teeth to prevent it turning 360 and pulling the wires off the board ).

The Hen long turret is a smaller diameter than the leopard
so I made a plasticard part that reduced the size of the hole in the body on the leopard, fitted this to the base of the leopard turret openin and fitted a bridgeing piece into the leopard turret and then the turret ring to this, then I fitted the motor and gearing into the hull of the Leopard and connected the motor of the mechanism to a 1 amp small speed controller.

I have variable speed of turret traverse both left and right and full 360 travel.

You can get hold of these 1/24 scale tanks quite cheeply on the net even a brand new one for about £50, worth the bits of you can get hold of a duff one like I did.

I intend to install the BB firing mechanism next in mine.

Hope its of use, if I have a pic of mine i will post it for you

Regards Sub.
