1/16th Tamiya Gepard

I have just recently purchased the tamiya 1/16th Scale gepard and is in need of plenty of restoration, the problem i have is that i cant seem to find any replacement parts for this model any were. I need track rollers, road wheels general body parts and if i can get them repleacement barrels.

I have been after one of these models for years, now that i have one i need parts. Can anyone please help with links to sites were i can purchase replacement parts, or better still does anyone have one sitting in a corner looking for a new home so i can mix and match to make up a decent model

if you can help could you email me the details or links to

sharoton05@btinternet.com and mark the subject as Gepard.
Many thanks - Tony

Try the Tamiya club website, they can source all sorts of bits, you may have to look in the vintage section, the Gepard has the same chassis and running gear as the Leopard 1 A4, I believe.

Apart from the sites mentioned above, keep an eye on ebay. Purchasing another wreck to make a whole one may be quicker and a bit cheaper. The Gepard has been out of production for quite some time. Complete ones go for hysterical money on ebay. A boxed one went for £600 a couple of months back. Wrecks depending on the damage and amount of missing parts can go for anywhere between £50 for major parts missing (ie running gear/electrical) and £300 (body detail and superstructure damage)

I have started the strip down of this model as you can see from the uploaded images, however i have a small problem. I have been trying to remove the paint from the model, the top layer came of easy with warm water as it was acrylic, however there is a thick undercoat that wont budge even after platering it in modelstrip twice. Can anyone offer any tips on what i can use without damaging the plastic under the paint. The white paint is so thick it has covered much body detail and i would like to get it back if i can. look forward to any help or advice - Regards - Tony

You could give oven cleaner a go, but you may want to test it on a part of the tank that is not too visible once finished!

All the running gear and lower hull on the Gepard are the same as the early tamiya leopard 4. Its much easier to pick up one of these as spares than a gepard. Hope this is of help

HI Conish Armour,

Did you have any luck? I have one that I started and never finished in the loft (use to be in bits in the spare room before the little ones come along). I just went and had a look and the barrel on one of them has snapped off and got lost. I think the wife throw it away not knowing what it was.

Cheers
Paul
