Motor tool/minidrill

Readahlabahtit roll up roll up.......Hi folks, your number one "daft question asker" here.

Motor tools - Dremel and suchlike: I've recently been researching "budget" minidrills and the like, and I happened across the infamous shesto website, who have one for around £21

Are these things much of a muchness, in the way that a £21 machine would do the work for me? I only use resin and polystyrene at the moment, with the occasional PE brass so I wouldn't be making the machine do loads of punishing excercise.

Anyone got any comments on this subject?

I think you get what you pay for as regards quality so you have to decide, based on your own use, what you think it is worth to you. Usually cheap stuff will do the job but not for very long!!

I once bought a very cheap and nasty circular saw from B&Q specifically to do a laying of a wooden floor in the dining room. I didn't have any other use for the saw and it did the one job perfectly. If I was doing the same job every day the saw wouldn't have lasted very long but it was perfect for my use. If I throw it away it was still an economical decision.

Hmm good point. well it would only be for occasional use and lightweight work with polystyrene....will probably get one. WIll let you know how it turns out!

As pointed out in another Thread,

B&Q also do their own make of these called Precision, For £30 you will get the Drill, a Stand to hang it on and a Flexi Drive as well as several bits to use with the Drill. The Stand will also hold most of your favourite bits so you know where they are quickly.

This is quite a powerful Drill and is variable Speed....For what you want it for, more than ideal and should last a lifetime. It will also accept genuine Dremel bits too.

Just weigh it up compared to the Drill you are looking at.

I must admit the flexi drive is very nice as it is lighter to hold when doing certain work (more like a pen) compared to Holding the whole drill in your hands....and allows for more precision.

Yeah Mark, just read that other thread now...roll on 5pm when I can get my beeehind down to B&Q!!! I think i might go for that one cos the others i looked at on Shestp's site were £21+delivery so would probably end up about the same, and it doesnt come with a flex drive!
