Yes she is very nice. Though not so great that you need to post it three times. in three different forums.

Please refrain from using the forum as a free advertisement board.

Further posts of this nature will be removed.

well said Ian.

if the forums to be used for advertising then John should get a suitable fee for letting companies post their wares.

Please accept my apologies, I didnt mean to cause any problems, I guess I got a little excited and wanted to share what we have produced and the technology that is out there to use. Im a keen model maker myself and have been for a number of years and Im always excited by new ways of making things.

Kind regards

I take it the image above is a printed image on paper, and not a set of figure "parts" printed on paper that can be assembled into a scale model?

If so then maybe a forum that specialises in imagery and/or printing development would be more apt and i'm sure you would get relevant compliments as it is quite a detailed rendering of the comic book character.

I'd like to see some of your scale models if you have images ... maybe some tips or tricks if you have any to share that may be of use to members here ... we're always interested in finding new methods to assist our build quality

Ive been intrigued by 3d printers having researched what they are capable of with a view to seeing if there would be any benefits to my business. The quality of output is amazing although, no matter what is imaged and printed it always has to be plastic (Resin based I think)... Im sure Im right when I say its more of a design tool that will create the original design from drawings. I know its also very expensive to get the design team onto creating your finished original due to the time needed and the skills of cad specialists, draftsmen, designers etc....There are a couple of really good videos available online that shows the printers at work...although im failing to see any benefit to us as modelers at the moment due to cost..

I can see a great future in 3D printing. It's sort of scratch building gone 21st century.

I play with 3D software and to be able to 'print it out' would be great. Print the part out once, then make resin copies, or even print out a mould and cast the resin ones in that....

I have an idea what I'd like to use one for but the expence is prohibitive

I played with 3D very early on (polygons and nodes etc) as a bit of fun, there was no area of my computer business that would benefit from it at the time ... following that link you gave Allyne, i had a little look around at the level of technology nowadays and it's very impressive indeed.

Thanks for the comments guys and again apologies for getting off on the wrong foot! I went to university and studied model making, we learnt the traditional way of making things, scratch built from materials, I love making things from scratch. My final uni piece was a scratch built 1:6th Scale Little Nellie from the James bond film ' You only live twice'.(pictures below) All made from foam, fibre glass, plastic etc. With the way the world is going/has gone its far quicker and cheaper for some to build things on machines such as a 3D printer. Its amazing technology, most of which goes over my head.

The picture below is a tiny engine that we printed. The cost of printing things at a small size isant that bad, you are right when you say it costs a little to get a 3D file made, unfortunatley that does stop some people from being able to do it which is a shame. We get alot of calls from companies wanting to get information about 3D printing but dont have the knowledge to produce the files, it doesnt take forever to learn a piece of software unless your me!! ;)

As far as i'm concerned thats in the past, enjoy the forum... it's one of a kind and there's a plethora of knowledge on here that is able to be accessed ...

As do i, this is the best bit of the hobby for me ..... it make each model even more unique than just each persons differing ways of building and painting similar models.

Thing is I want to make a certain item and I either make the moulds myself and resin cast it or I get someone like yourselves to do it. I know that their would be quite a few other people (worldwide) interested in this item as well which is making me go down the making my own moulds route. It all depends on cost at the end of the day

We can work with STL, IGES and Step files best and also Solid works files

We mainly use Solid works and Majics to view and work with files.

Kind regards

I also play with 3D software and would also love to have a go at a 3D printer. I wonder whether plastic scale model kit makers could use it to make even more detailed trial moulds without the need to make originals each time? (Although I know nothing about the mould making process.)

Most of the big boys, Dragon, trumpeter, etc, make their prototypes in CAD these days and by carefully leaking out the CAD renders into various fora, get loads of feed back on how it can be improved, before they get started on moulds/tools.

A 3D print costs peanuts compared to the cost of an injection tool.

My biggest interest in 3D printing, would have to be figures, Mechanical things can be built up of card and rod plastic stock, but sculpting a figure is way beyond me. Give me a program to make 3D computer models of figures and I have no worries.

Having said that I can also find my way around studiomax quite well.....Hmm.

Figures are really a nice thing to 3D print, we have done a few and they are so cool, its just learning how to build and produce the file. We are going to build a tank soon, cant wait to see how it turns out :smiling3:

You'd make a killing if you could do decent aircrew figures. Especially a whole crew of the heavy bombers etc
