Meng Models USS Lexington 1/700

This is my build of Meng's 1/700 USS Lexington.
When I bought this from a local model shop I hadn't realised it was a snap together kit! However I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the mouldings, even though some details are very much simplified to reduce the parts count. I'm not going to add any extra details, etched parts etc. just concentrate on a decent paint finish.
Photos to follow.

image.jpeg This is the model, fully constructed in about two hours. The mouldings are all pre-coloured but not very realistic.

Following an overall coat of Halford's acrylic primer I've begun painting with Lifecolor acrylics.

So far just the hull and the island structure have been done. Flightdeck next.

I haven't had much time at the workbench lately but here's a quick catch up on how things have been progressing.....
I normally airbrush as much as I can as to put it simply I much prefer it, even though you can spend a lot of time masking and cleaning the airbrushes. Well this is another reason why I prefer airbrushing:

The flightdeck turned out like this.....so out with the masking tape.....

And I am now a much happier boy.....

Faith restored in Lifecolor paints and the show goes on!

Thanks for looking.

All looks very nice. Any plans to have a thing or two on deck ? I know they would be tiny.............

Well I did ask didn't I. Brilliant. At least they don't have too many decals.

The kit comes with what looks like a pretty comprehensive set of markings for the aircraft but they are actually stickers so I've had to raid the spares box for some decals. Might have an attempt at replicating the rudder stripes!

Added some more gel to the seascape before adding the wake.

Thanks for the positive comments. Much appreciated!

I've just applied a very thin dark wash to bring out some of the detail.

Next I'll apply some pale grey highlights.

Quick update.
Added the air group and some figures. Mainly using this model as a test bed for a few techniques so I've had a go with Uschi thread for some rigging.

A few touch ups to do then I hope to finish the seascape.
