Greetings peeps
Here is my next attempt on the modelling front I actually started this 3 years ago and shelved it after a disastrous loss of parts and interest namely all the engine throttles etc
Anyway I have acquired some replacements so now it is time to restart this build namely Hatchett’s 1/32 scale Lancaster BMk 1 if I’m not mistaken here’s where I got to last time

Regards

Colin

Thats a big 'un Colin...
Never heard of that make before, balsa I assume?
I hope that you have an aircraft hanger to display it....
Looks an interesting and different one, I will certainly follow the build.

It certainly is made from laser cut plywood plastic metal and the dreaded pe but just look at the size of those instruments which have to be glued into place
last time I tried this was a disaster so will need to think this one through this time around

Looks good so far Colin. I don't envy the task ahead but the result should be very impressive and well worth the wait.

1/32 Lancaster Build Update 2

2nd phase of the fuselage build complete all stringers in place waiting for the glue to dry then it will be painted in light green colour
I believe this one will join the centre section where the wings fix to to and the underside of both will form the bomb bay

Regards

Colin

Fuselage now painted looks a bit rough but the ends can be sanded smooth as they will but up against other parts and won’t be seen as such

Just a photo showing a rough assembly of parts so far to illustrate the size of this thing there is a Humbrol paint tin by the nose for comparison

Good heavens. It will look amazing, but I'm glad it's you and not me building this.

1/32 Lancaster Build Update 9

Back or rear end of the fuselage now built ready for the stringers to give its shape you wouldn’t believe the disasters with the ribs breaking through twisting after the glue set and the savergy with which I had to cut whole pieces out and reassemble them take the mid upper turret mount it didn’t line up as it should and forcing it there the bottom section caved in along the lines of sod this I’m not twisting that far
So I glued the turret assembly in 1st this time around and cut and bodged the bottom section to match you know sort thing we all come up against and the drastic measures taken to correct them
The good thing with this kit is it’s wood and there’s always stacks of waste wood left over from the for want of a better word sprues so you have ample material with which to replace repair or make a new part should the damage be that severe only a replacement will do
So should be able to join these into a coherent piece hopefully this weekend assuming everything goes to plan

Regards

Colin

1/32 Lancaster Build Update 10

Hello peeps me again not much to show for 3 weeks work this section has been another pia to deal with each stringer had to be clamped into place while it set this too 2 weeks just to string the rear fuselage anyway that’s done
Next was installing the flare tube holders into the main fuselage to anybody building this particular kit do not repeat do not follow the book instructions after page 118 section 21 go straight instead to issue 30 page 181 and paint and install the flare tubes and holders doing it this way you won’t have any of the stringers in the way as illustrated and forced to use a pair of tweezers like a ring tailed lemur trying to hook a grub out of a piece of bark see the last photo in the set if only it was that easy trust me those stringers prevent you from sticking the holders in place without a lot of fiddling around without them it would be a piece of cake which is why I recommended fitting the flare tube holders and flares before actually stringing the fuselage
Once you have attached the flare tubes and the flares go back to Issue 20 page 118 section 21 and continue to section issue 31 page 184 section 21 which is where I am now

Regards

Colin
