hi guys back again, now a problem to solve how to turn the rod movent which i part sussed from when it was elastic band powered. You've already got your answer. When you turned the paddle wheel, you converted a rotary motion to reciprocating via the cam attached to the centre of the wheel. You need a similar arrangement at the motor end. The real problem will be slowing the motor down, some sort of gearbox will be needed.
