Question Question on Piko for Marklin

Hi, I am new to this hobby.
It is very exciting as we all know by now. Sometimes though you make mistakes (i.e. now) where you need the help from others.
I purchased a loco from Piko for Marklin rail format and I want to convert it to DCC format (Piko rail format). It has its own decoder installed already. I think it is not enough just to take off the shoe (metal bar in the middle). I need to do something else. but what..?
Any guidance is very welcome.
Cheers
