Righto.. here ive used Balsa wood to hide the orrible bits...ill stain them the same colour as the wood on the dio..depending on the finish i might add a veneer? but you get the idea!
ive carried the balsa all along the length of the baseboard..to create a dam for the river..as its balsa i can trim it easily to the height of the water..to keep it nice and tidy...this is what i use to replicate water...its a two part casting resin.. i buy it at the local art store..[I need more this one is empty]..
and here are a few pics with the figures im going to use...the commander figure on top of the emplacement has been given a different arm to bring the binoculars up to his eyes..

No i dont swirl it around..i paint mud. and lay the vegetation in the direction of the flow.. in this case front to back...and build the coulour between layers of resin..to give the perception of depth..

The balsa wood has done the trick nicely Deakon,it is years since I used that clear casting resin, used to encapsulate coins and things like that.

it can be used for many many things. usually my mum would complain if she knew i was spending £50 on something for my modeling.
but when i told here that we can use the left overs to make those little "jelly" candles and they can be what ever colour you want....she started asking when i was getting it lol.
check out a great ebay shop/ seller, he stocks resins, i have used his store on numerous occaisions- he is currently doing 2kg of clear casting resin for £39-99
