Adhesives-Contact type adhsives.

Principally used for fixing large doublers where PVA would prove unsuitable due to lack of air that would not allow the adhesive to evaporate, also where epoxy would prove much too heavy.
Method-both surfaces to be joined must be coated with a thin consistant film laid on with a serrated comb type scraper device, these are then allowed to touch dry.
Once the surfaces contact each other an immediate bond is made and it is imperative to be accurate with the mating of the surfaces,to assist with this slide a piece of tracing (or greaseproof) paper between the two dried surfaces so that the two surfaces just hover over the paper itself, when all is lined up by viewing from the top just pull the tracing paper away then quickly press the two surfaces together, further assistance can be rendered with the use of a wooden roller, the type used for lino printing and available from art suppliers.
Specialised ammonia based contact adhesives with a latex layer are used for attaching veneers and balsa wood to expanded polystyrene foam cores, this is used as any conventional adhesive will easily dissolve the foam.
As a readily available substitute ordinary copydex adhesive will do the job, spread on sparingly to both surfaces with a piece of ordinary soft foam.
Health warning-As with all heavily petroleum based adhesives good ventilation is essential, working in a room with no windows open will soon make you feel very high and can be dangerous,if possible work outside when laying up the materials.
