I have never been a fan of this type of sub because the shape is so uninteresting but you have shown what detail can be put into the surface and you have really brought this one to life. Even such things as the salt staining around the waterline at the aft end looks superb and the overall effect is increadibly lifelike.

A beautifully engineered model with a superbly applied paint job. You should be very proud of the results.

Hi Mankster. I am helping someone who is considering getting this Typhoon. Which version did you buy? TAE/TAES/TMAX/RC Premium? And does this typhoon still have the parts that open up for the torpedoes at the top? (I don't know what they are called, but I was VERY impressed with them when I first saw them). And if two tanks come with it, what is the differance between them and buying the other kit that is static? And thanks for the pictures, it helps a lot!! Patsy Elders Norman, OK USA

Hi, the Engel Typhoon does not come with working torp doors or missile doors, that you'll need to do that yourself. They all come with twin dive tanks. The TAES adds a depth keeping ability when the boat is parked and static (does not work when its underwater, you'll need a depth keeper that works off the dive planes for that), over the basic TAE system. The TMAX allows proportional control over the the piston tanks (fine tune trim from the transmitter rather than having to open it up and add lead to balance it). RC Premium is TAES with all the xtras you might need like radio and speed controllers. I bought mine (TMax version) direct from the Engel website.

I haven't managed to find time to test her out yet. The first sink or swimm effort is penciled in for the 19th of this month at the Norwich Sub meet. More pictures then

I finally got a chance to put TK-20 through her first trials today. After overcoming some intial gremlins caused by the battery shifting a little during the car journey, every thing went pretty smoothly. She was no speed demon, but still fast enough. Turning was a revalation, with independent throttles mixed to the rudder I could trun her inside 2 boat length on the surface and withing her own length under water at slow speed. I didn't get a chance to fine tune the pitch contoller, but she still held a reasonable course. Near zero water visibility and with just 3 feet of water to play with, submerged runs were kept to PD.

Great boating venue, In particularly like the jetties and buildings to add that bit of interest.

The model looks fantastic and a credit to your building skills and attention to detail. Thanks for the pictures and the video's.

Thanks Richard.

I've uploaed a 6 miunte video here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7UJa3jvWUtg Sorry for the shakey footage, most the the time I had the Tx in one hand and the camera in the the other whilst looking out for other submarines lurking in the green murk. Lookout for the little blooper at the very end

Now thats what I call a Submarine sailing pond complete with its own orchestra fantastic !!!. I am going to have to visit one day when work permits, all we need is my Akula at the side, and my Los Angeles jumping out the water and hey presto who needs Holywood !!. She was just the right speed, very scale, they don't want to move any faster and for a first trim dive that was impressive well done and thanks for taking the time to post the clips brilliant.

Hi there guy's. I have just posted a pic of a type 11Xc @ 1/32nd scale. It,s about 8 or 9 years old now, a lot of hard work, but well worth the effort. Starting a type nine now at the same scale, that comes out to eight feet long! might be able to have a ride on it!!!

Impressive sight

The boat is certainly an impressive sight in the water. It has to be one of the more realistic sub models I have seen. I think the size of the boat makes it handle better and less prone to surface conditions and wind. Looks Great !

Its certainly an incentive to get my Typhoon on the way and not to get distracted by the pub

God knows what those daft swans will make of the Typhoon at the lake at Tynemouth! They certainly didnt like the Robbe U47
