Not much progress the last couple of weeks. My free time has been taken up refitting the Blueback and getting another sub ready for the Norwich Sub meet. I'll start making the access hatch and fit the through bulkhead electrical connector in the pressure hull next week. I've made a start doing some work on the actual hull. It seems that most of the drainage holes that adorne the hull are scribed in the wrong position, and I contemplating scribing and cutting out and filing over 200 new holes....

ARRGHHHHH!!!! The family are off with the in-laws, the cats been evicted from the lounge, I have the house to myself and can make as much mess and noise as I want. I have marked up the lid, taped it down, hauled my bench drill upstairs where I have more space and light ready to drill all those holes. I am all set and ready to go, plenty of new 4mm drill bits at the ready...... but wait ..... some force of nature is holding me back........ I can't for the life of me find the chuck key!

Very, very neat work Ramesh. I can see you've done this before! It's going to take an age to evenly tighten down all those nuts poolside though! And I thought mine was bad - I've used wingnuts to make it easier for my less than dextrous fingers. What are all the extra holes intended for though?

Hi Andrew, thanks, yes on my first Typhoon I fitted a clear lid but kept the opening stock size and used a slicone gasket type seal. This time I will be using an oring cord seal. The white bit below the lid is a 3mm thick plasticard plate that will form a channel to hold the oring and limit overtightening of the lid and overcompression of the oring. This way I just tighten the nuts as far as they will go and I have an even seal, also I will be able to see the oring compressing and the seal forming evenly. Engel has 9cm between their screws, but I played it safe and went for 5cm. I hope that the boat will be reliable enough that I only need to remove the lid to charge the battery. The advantage of a clear lid is that you can satisfy yourself that all is well, without removing the lid. I will have an onboard digital voltmeter/ammeter as well. The inspection hatch at the front will house the on-off switches and charging leads and will also serve to ventilate the WTC when out of the water to prevent condensation. Using an electric screwdriver I can do them all in about 2min, not too much of chore, considering the size and weight I have to haul to pond side! The extra holes are for electrical connections (external servos, lights, sound, thrusters etc...) and an extra servo pushrod seal (at some point I hope to a working missile). The connetions are water/pressure proof through bulkhead type.

I have finally completed work on the pressure hull. As you can see I haven't yet installed the oring seal for the main lid (I'll do it at end to avoid damaging it when installing other components) and have not built the pericope mechanism (the lid show is a scap one, my main one is still in its protectective coverings). I chose to install the mountings for the main drive motors and front dive plane retract gearbox before permanantly gluing in the pressure hull. It is easier to make sure everything lines up right if you do this after bonding the pressure hull as the instructions suggest, but it makes installing the mounts for the gearboxes in the end bulkhead more difficult.
I am going to have to build a jig before I bond in pressure hull to the lower hull. Not only does the top of the pressure hull need to an exact measurement from the bottom throughout its length, the hull side need to be pulled in just enough to form a nice seam with the top hull when bonded with the pressure hull.

I just wish I'd had the common sense to make that size of hatch when I started mine. Life would be so much easier now! To try and remove the drive motor and relay circuits for the bow planes was bad enough. How I'm ever going to get it all back in I just don't know! It's been sitting for 8 weeks now while I think about it. lol.
