Thanks for the Warning, I have ordered a new o ring from Engel. Think I will tell the lads at the club that one, might make a few of them think twice.

Hmm I am having exactly the same trouble with the lid on my build. The wtc is watertight but the lid just will not seal. Ordered some new rubbers and new lid from Engel but will be interested in seeing if you fix the problem and how.

Paul / solo

What's wrong with the lid ? is it warped ???and the top of the box flat ??or is the box not square ??

If its just the lid I may have a fix you can try .

Sub.

My problem was of my own creation. I damaged the seal in the initial stages of the build. It had a chunk taken out of it thats all. But enough to cause problems, and i wasnt going to take a chance for the sake of £10 of seal.

But what was your idea Sub ? Always open to suggestions.

Paul

If your top hull isn't perfectly flat you may want to try neoprene sponge cord of a larger diameter instead of the nitrile cord supplied. It compresses better and will 'gap fil' better .

Hi Solo. The only problem I had with mine is as I said above, was of my own making, in that there was a chunk missing

But one thing I did notice was the rubber O ring Engel supply, was so thick it was practically impossible to get the nuts on the screw heads, to say nothing of compressing it.

As I said I have ordered a new one so hopefully it will be here for the weekend. But if its no good I will update on here what happens.

Paul

the Lid on your model is exactly the same as mine and I have had the same problem.

Snap same here. I have ordered a new ring also and I am going to put in longer bolts. If this wont fix the problem with the longer bolts I Could then try Mankster's idea and use a larger and softer neoprane cord .

Thats was my thought as well.

Trouble is with mine the nut heads are sealed in, so the gasket is the only thing i can alter now without serious altereations.

Engels kits are damn expensive!...i am surprised to read that something as important as the wtc lid can be so shoddily manufactured, couple that with an ill conceived rubber gasket...... i would have asumed it was "made in China". (not being racist! just a statement of fact-before everyone gets uppity!!)

.*your going to tell me they are indeed made in China, i know it!

If I had of read what we have written I might have thought the same thing !!

The water tight containers that the lids fit on, its not as much as badly built, as the material its made from as with the hull, can warp easily. And being a German kit, everything is precisley measured to the MM, so any deviance from the drawing will cause problems.

I think the Engel boats are really meant not as a kit, but more a basic shell that you have to complete! The gasket thing wouldnt be a problem if they supplied a bolt that was an extra 2 mm in length. So you are right, thats just silly.

But if it was easy it would be boring

ps
If you think the problems we have had are bad with a German kit, can you imagine how bad it would be with a Chinese kit ?!?!?!Oh and in my industry we unfortunatley buy a lot of gear from there, and most of it is rough to say the least. So not talking out my ae, just experience. Just ask anyone from Marconi, recent events will tesify to what I am saying.
